Pay /benifit practices for unskilled labor

I/we (family) have had the need for unskilled labor and have usually used people from wifes village as we know and trust most of them. I was just recently told about a situation that raised several questions in my mind about local pay practices, we might be paying way more than is normal in CM area.Doubt we will change our pay scale but I would like to know if the description /example I give is normal.

The situation involves a condo whose occupants pay to the manager 13,500 baht /month for a daytime security man. He is supplied and paid by a local company which provides this service to those wanting same. Now let me point out this security man is not Thai, but seems/is said to have legal permission to live and work here.

His pay is 300 baht/day, with a deduction each month of 500 baht for insurance. Any day that he does not work for personal reasons, his pay is docked 600 baht by the company he is supplied by. So 1 day of not working costs him 2 days pay. This local company is owned by policemen, in fact pay is distributed by men in uniform driving police vehicle.

Can someone enlighten me as to the 500 insurance fee charge and the practice of lose 2 day pay for each day of missed work?

Whats to understand ?? 600b fines makes it a punishment if they have sloppy attendance..

300b is it seems about normal but less is still paid in the boonies or to non Thais despite it being legal min wage.

The 500 Baht is the payment for social security/medical insurance.

Can non Thai citizens get the Social security ?

Oh...I missed that....

Could be for a private medical plan then? The wife's aunt used to employ a number of ladies at her clothing factory that were immigrants - some may have been hilltribes (all here legally). She had a private plan for them through McCormick Hospital. The Japanese companies she supplied demanded it. It was about 400/month.
