On And Off Again Makro U-Turn on Sukhumvit

post-247607-0-48066100-1464419200_thumb.

PATTAYA: On 28 May 2016 at Pattaya City Hall, Mr. Thongchai Arjsong a Pattaya City Council member gave a speech regarding the U-Turn project on Sukhumvit Road near the entrance of Makro and top of Soi Nongkrabok.

Mr. Thongchai announced that Pattaya City Council had not agreed with the construction plan but the project was carried out anyway until completion although now blocked and until this day, still not operational.

The many complaints from people in the area is causing concern with Pattaya City Council.

This project is under the Transport Engineering and Logistic Department, and in the past it appeared that there were several problems in some projects i.e. over budget, traffic signages and were not been placed in the right location or work wasn’t performed with proper care. Some projects were not in the correct operational timeline.

What about the one on Jomtien Second Road, going south, just past the market? Ridiculous to have blocked that one off, necessitating a long, long drive to the next one, for no apparent reason.

Open 1 week, then shut down, over budget, late opening, wrong location, improperly constructed.

This project touched all the bases. cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

No mention of the fact that it is in the wrong place, dangerously sited. People using it to enter Makro cut across traffic coming from the south and then slow down to enter. Badly thought out and nothing to do with the work. All to do with the people who put it there on paper.coffee1.gif

Has anyone taken a close look at the map above? It is FAR from accurate! In fact, there are few things shown in the correct place. Tesco Lotus is NOT located at South Pattaya Road. That is where the Big C is. Tesco is located at Thappasit Road, where Makro is incorrectly shown on the map. The Texaco gas station is next to the Tesco on the West side of the street. Not on the East side of the road as shown. This is ridiculous. And for the record, can anyone tell me WHY IN HELL all maps in Thailand are never shown with North facing the UP position. These are always turn on their side. Silly place! Needless to say, I'm not surprised it was all done without the correct location or signage. The location of the previous U-turn was just fine. Now, if they ever do open up this one, it'll be very dangerous to try to get into the Makro parking lot.

Don't know why they even changed it.

Ok i can understand making a lane to turn so not holding up the outside lane

But the u-turns were better placed before,

Now when they do decide to open the new u turn, yo need to dash across 3 lanes to get to makro

And to get back must do the same, which is just not possible, so for going to makro it useless

It drives me insane getting stuck in traffic waiting to u turn by tesco

Yes, bit of a pain when you want to go to immigration.

Usually a bad accident at the location forces them to close it off.

Drove past it tonight on the way home at 9.30pm. There was a big accident on the opposite carriageway (heading north) at about that spot. Lots of emergency vehicles etc. No doubt it will be in the local press tomorrow.

No wonder it is over budget if they keep paying people to draw inaccurate maps... do they not know they can get better maps of Google Earth for free. gigglem.gif

Chayapruek is also wrong on the map - that is Soi Watboon.

This U turn is right at the point the homocidal maniacs reach the apex of their high speed dash to the next set of lights whether they are heading North or South. Opening that U turn would only lead to carnage and death.

As for maps in Thailand..... got to be the biggest waste of time ever on paper. Showing one to a local you might was well show them a map of Kentucky or the upper reaches of the Limpopo river. Show them a map of the world and the big surprise is.

"Why Thailand so small?"

For those of you doing U turns at Tesco to head back South.... head North a few hundred mtrs to Soi 54 and turn down there and turn left at a junction you meet past the new condo building, turn left at the next junction, Turn left at the next junction and you head onto Soi Watboon and you can make a right safely at the traffic lights on Suhk....no need to cross 4 lanes of madness and wait for ages to do an unsafe U turn.
