I came in with a regular 4 week stamp and I want to extend my stay a little longer. I have wife, children and house here.

Is it possible to Extend tourist visa by 30 days based on staying with family?

Cheers. Usually I have non-o visas.

You can apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife.

A 30 day visa exempt entry (it is not a visa) can be extended for 30 days and is routinely done.

After much googling I have found that all I need to bring is:

1) Passport

2) 1900 baht

3) Photo

Fill in forms at immigration.

Please confirm or update if possible. Thanks!

Your wife will need to be with you when you apply for the 60 day extension, You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy, copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card. You will also need proof of residence unless living where you wife's house book is for.

You will also need a copy of your passport photo page, entry/permit to stay stamp and TM6 departure card. A completed TM7 form with a 4 X 6 cm photo attached.

Correct me if I'm wrong here:

The 30 day extension on the visa exempt entry can be extended with another 60 day extension based on visiting wife or children. Giving you 90 days in total.

No a 30 day visa exemption can be extended for 30 days for tourism purposes or in the case of having a Thai wife or child 60 days.

So it's 60 days or 90 days only.

I'm may only extend for 30 days if its less hassle with documents as I probably need to leave before the 4 weeks are up.

From Police order 138/2557

2.24 In the case of visiting a spouse or children who are of Thai nationality:

Each permission shall be granted for no more than 60 days.

1. Application form.

2. Copy of applicant’s passport.

3. Copy of household registration certificate.

4. Copy of national ID card of the person having Thai nationality.

5. Copy of a marriage certificate or copy of a birth certificate.

Thanks for the helpful comments. I went in today and tried for the 60 days since I thought I had all the paperwork but they asked for all the originals including the marriage certificate which I left at home.

Anyway, the officer was very helpful and said its better anyway to get a 30 day extension because after I could still apply for a further 60 days after. If I was to get 60 days first no more extensions will be given.

Anyways, 30 days is what I really needed and this I got without marriage papers as suggested above by ubonjoe.
