Costa Concordia captain Schettino's jail sentence upheld

FLORENCE: -- An Italian appeals court has upheld the 16-year sentence given to the captain of the Costa Concordia which capsized in 2012 killing 32 people.


Francesco Schettino was sentenced last year after a court found him guilty of manslaughter; causing a maritime accident and abandoning ship.

He was seeking to overturn the conviction, while the prosecution wanted a longer prison term.

sleazy idiot wanting to impress his girl by taking it too close to some island, then not coordinating the rescue effort. 6 months in jail for each death, sounds like a sentence from a court in thailand.

At least the periods are not concurrent. 16 years is still a long time, deservedly so.
