My elderly neighbour went to the local Amphoe for his uncontested divorce.

He and his wife had all the necessary paperwork, witnesses and signatures.

Unfortunately his passport number on the marriage certificate is 3 or 4 passports ago

and his current passport is unacceptable.

Due to stress he broke down as he could not understand what he had to do next.

His missus was trying to explain to me but I don't speak Thai at that level.

Go to the Brit Embassy and pay for an affidavit, but to certify what?

Translate the affidavit.

Get a Min. of Foreign Affairs stamp to approve the translation.

You can get married at any amphur and so can probably also get divorced at any amphur. Simply go to another amphur and try it there.

My wife is an interpreter and translator and visits these amphurs on a regular basis. She says the passport number should not matter but you do need the current passport translating and stamped at the MFA before going to the amphur.

As the previous poster said just go to a different amphur and you will get a different result.

could a Pattaya translation service stamp be acceptable?

Yes it has to be notarised and stamped at the MFA in Bangkok, nowhere else. A translation service stamp and signature states that the translator has correctly translated the document but they are not notaries and cannot give the document its legal standing. (hope that makes sense...lol)

By the way most translation services give a service, for a reasonable fee, of translating and taking to MFA and stamping and then posting to home.
