NLA’s social development committee accepts petition from family of fatally-attacked handicapped man

BANGKOK, 2 June 2016 (NNT) - A committee under the National Legislative Assembly has accepted a petition from the family of a handicapped man, who was the victim of a recent fatal attack by a group of teenagers.

Chairman of the NLA’s committee on society and the affairs of children, youth, women, the elderly, people with disabilities and the underprivileged, Wallop Tangkananurak and his deputy, Khunying Songsuda Yodmani, on Wednesday received a petition from the family of Somkiat Srichan, a handicapped who was fatally attacked in early May.

In the petition, it was stated that investigators of Chokchai police station have not yet pressed a charge of premeditated murder against the suspects because of insufficient evidence.

The bereaved family said they would like Mr. Wallop’s committee to help them get justice.

Mr. Wallop said that he will bring the petition to the attention of the committee while adding that he personally has been trying to reform the investigation process, particularly when the suspects are related to policemen.

In a case like this, he said that the investigators should come from the Department of Special Investigations to ensure justice in the case.

Shades of the 18th century when one had to travel to Autthaya or Bangkok to petition a central authority for "justice".

It takes just ONE of these attackers to be linked to someone with power & they will all get away with their crime...Thai youths with guns, machetes,

& even fast cars can do as they please in ths fast-becoming lawless nation.

The story will just fade away from any news reports & soon be forgotten, then the guilty are full of bravado & no doubt be free to do again..TiT.

How antiquated in that you need a petition to get justice. This is the 21st century is it not? These scum should at the very least be put behind bars for life although this would cost money, better if they are executed it will save the country money and these objects, I wont classify them as people, will have their just rewards.

Taking knives like they had leaves no doubt that they intended to kill someone, if not the crippled man some other innocent. This state of mind together with the atrocity they committed can not be overlooked. If Thailand is serious about coming down on crime then this is as good a place as any to show it means business.

Am I remembering incorrectly that the deceased was a beggar?

​Certainly the attackers should be severely punished and relieved of the notion that they are free to torment anyone.

I wonder what the petition for justice actually requests. It would not surprise me that the bereaved family might be looking to get monetary compensation for the loss of the dearly departed who was killed on the street begging.
