Election Commission introduces referendum helping applications

BANGKOK, 9 June 2016 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has introduced an application to facilitate the referendum process on 7 August, and expects an 80 percent participation rate from eligible voters.

The EC Chairman Supachai Somcharoen said the EC has been making adjustments to regulations and laws to be more up to date, introduced an investigation system which is recognized by the court, developed the organization using good governance, and is ready to implement technology for the upcoming referendum on 7 August.

The EC has developed applications to help the general public locate and navigate to their voting locations, report suspicious activities, and inform the general public on the content of the new constitution in text and cartoon formats.

The referendum time on 7 August will be extended to 4pm, and now just a letter proving homeownership can be used as an identification document for voters for greater convenience should they need to vote outside of their designated province.

The EC is also allocating time slots for each political group to express their opinion in a balanced manner, and promote the basic knowledge of democracy by cooperating with the subdistrict democracy promotion centers, while expecting the number of voters participating in this referendum to be no less than 80 percent.

Democracy promotion centres, cartoons etc.

Brightened my day already.

So you can report "suspicious activities" via the EC application.

I find it suspicious that they can put such a clear figure, 80%, on the expected turn out; that they can be so confident that the result will be a resounding yes; that all government resouces, from teacher to village heads and of course the military will be going door to door to "explain" the draft.

I am not suspicious at all about the law that does not allow campaigning, either for or against the draft, I KNOW what that is all about.

Unless there is allowed discussion from both sides of the spectrum, this referendum can only be described as a sham, where no dissenting voice is heard there is no way people can make there minds up either way , only the Prayut way, and that is not necessarily the right way.............................................coffee1.gif .

Inform the general public with text and "cartoon" formats !!

Mickey mouse, Tom & Jerry, take your pick as either describes the whole thing adequately :)

Election Commissioner Somchai also said earlier this year that the EC will allow absentee voters to vote online.

Is that still the plan as it will need a secure app and eligibility verification of voter?

Probably have to wait whilst the IT team finish the Chiang Mai online immigration appointment system, only a few months so far so I guess it should be ready by the end of a year, not sure which one!
