BMA unclogs drains in Min Buri district

BANGKOK, 9 June 2016 (NNT) - Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumband Paribatra has observed a dredging operation to unclog city drainage and canals in Min Buri district. Dredging operations are part of the city's flood prevention measures ahead of the rainy season.

The Bangkok Governor and officials from the Department of Drainage and Sewerage traveled to Nimitmai Road, where sewer pipes were being cleaned and unclogged.

The road, particularly at Suwinthawong Intersection, is often inundated during heavy rainfall. As a low-lying area, Min Buri is also prone to flooding. It took three sewage trucks, six water pumps and 30 people to empty the sewer pipes, which are four kilometers long.

This operation has allowed rainwater to be quickly drain from the road and diverted to Khlong Saen Saeb canal. The same team of city officials also removed water weeds from Khlong Bung Wa canal, expanding its capacity to store water.
