All provincial governors told to brace for flooding and landslides during rainy season

BANGKOK, 10 June 2016 (NNT) – Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda has instructed provincial governors nationwide to brace for flooding and landslides during rainy season.

The minister's order has been circulated to every provincial governor around the country to urge them to start preparing measures to prevent flooding throughout this year. Sewers will be unclogged while canals and rivers will be dredged up to contain an excessive amount of rain water.

Other measures including the construction of river embankments, mapping out of evacuation plans and improvement of warning systems are also underway. The provincial governors are expected to submit respective anti-flooding plans to the Ministry of Interior for consideration.

Meanwhile, similar preparations are underway in Bangkok where sewers and tunnels have been cleared of garbage to keep an excessive water flowing into the river unimpeded and fast.

Ground breaking stuff from General Anupong....

Great advice !

After all flood and drought is so rare here warnings are absolutely necessary, not exactly annual occurrences are they ?

Annual? Some parts of Samui are axle-deep every time there's a half-decent downpour...

Nevertheless, one would've thought they would've spent the last four years constructing river embankments, mapping out evacuation plans, and improving warning systems...

There's probably a committee(s) somewhere still deliberating. Proper planning takes time you know ! rolleyes.gifgigglem.gif

Well i would like to know when the rainy season will come,it is dry as hell here in Wichianburi [Petchabun province],we have had just over 100 ml since January, these are akin to rainfall figures one would expect from the Australian outback, also still hot 37c yesterday.

....6 months of nothing....

...now this....

They should rush to do this. Apparently rain is coming.

After all this work wouldn't have been possible in the dry season!

Over here in Khampaeng Phet province we have had 185mm so far this year but it is a bit cooler at 35C.

Still pleasant at 26C in the early morning though.

They have been doing this work around where I live in Khampaeng Phet province for months now.
