Just graduated with a MEng in Civil Engineering from Cardiff University in the UK.

I have one years work experience with a Global Engineering Company (Arup) in Sewer Infrastrure design and Management.

Thailand's water Infrastrure is dreadful, I've visited enough to see first hand.

Wondered if there are any Civil Engineers out there working with water in Thailand and what are job opportunities like for Engineers over here?

Ie Starting Salary, responsibility, government or privately funded projects etc.

I love Thailand and the drainage problems it faces fascinate me. Any info is welcomed.

I believe your profession is on the reserved for Thai nationals list. Very little to zero chance of finding a job offer.

My son has BEng and MEng from UK . In Thailand the wages are pretty poor even if working for an international company. In my opinion you would be wasting your time working here.

For example there is a pretty awesome constructed wetland in Phi pHi which I randomly stumbled across last year and wanted to see if I could again see something else.

But if the work is reserved for Thais and I speak no Thai what's so ever I think I may be a bit stuck!

Naw mate, be smart, do it the old fashioned way, keep Thailand in the "holiday" column for the next couple of decades. Work, live modestly, save, invest, build a solid foundation of experience, networking and financial security under your boots. Get that right, interesting opportunities will, invariably, present themselves.

Bangkok doesn't have infrastructure. They build first and then see what happens and what's needed. Then they hire foreign consultants to tell them what

to do. Then they realize they have no qualified engineers, so they then hire foreign specialists. This of course takes up to 10 years to solve the problem!

Amazing Thailand. PS: Same with roads. Build buildings, malls, houses, and then build roads after there finished.

Thailand is very difficult to work in unless you speak Thai ,and that list referred to is very long, the reason why their sewage and water are so bad, they don't employ outsiders and won't listen and their English is terrible , their uni graduates , are only half qualified to U , and that's only half the trouble have a look at Singapore or Hong Kong for any work, if you like Asia, Singapore has some interesting vacancies for Expats

The bottom line is that Kon Tai would rather have FORM over function. That's right---any system

that doesn't perform properly is okay---as long as Asian Face was maintained. You'd go outta your mind trying to transpose

Western values in the Orient.
