Two Bangkok betting offices raided as Euro 2016 kicks off

BANGKOK: Commandos and police raided two betting offices in the Ramkhamhaeng area of downtown Bangkok Friday where betting on football matches was taking place.

Staff at one office seeing the raid tried to delete information but were thwarted.

A total of three staff and seven customers were arrested in the two separate raids.

On the ground floor of a building in Ramkhamhaeng Soi 53 three computer notebooks and one desktop computer connected to a network were seized. A staff member had tried to clear information but police were still able to read it. Two staff were arrested and three customers.

A two storey commercial premises in Ramkhamhaeng Soi 23 was also raided with football betting going on downstairs. One staff member and four customers were arrested with computers, betting slips and money being taken into evidence.

The raids come as police nationwide are looking for gamblers as the Euro 2016 soccer tournament began in Paris, France last night.
