I workout everyday on a soccer team and am in great condition. I m 20 years of age, a male and weigh 148lbs/67kg with a height of 176cm/5.9ft. I can t seem to get rid of the spare tire around my belly area. Do you think I might have a medical condition? I can t lose more weight, that s for sure!

If it's true you're quite fit otherwise, you sound like an IDEAL candidate for liposuction. Liposuction is not meant for weight loss but it is meant to deal with localized areas that patients have tried to address, and are unsuccessful. Very common. Good luck.

So the question for you now if you want to go that route is whether it's worth the money and small medical risk to do it, and also exactly WHERE to go to have it done.

I suppose also there is a cosmetic concern of loose skin after the procedure. But your youth is probably a big plus with that too ... more elasticity to adapt.

Not sure about that with lipo as opposed to natural weight loss ... should do some research.

Liposuction at 20??

Crazy idea......I recommend you do 100 laps of the pool most days and eat a bit less....it will disappear in a month.

I don't agree with you that 20 is too young in a case like the OP's but I reckon neither one of us are qualified doctors.

I don't see how laps target one body area. He'll lose a belly in a month? Dude, you are tripping.

Yup if he swims like I said and cuts back on his calorie intake he will have i gone in a month. No trouble at all.

My lack of a gut says otherwise.

So you used to have a big belly and the sit ups fixed that? Is that what you're saying?

If so, I hope you realize that your personal experience doesn't flow to all of humanity.

Lipo for spot "reducing" for people who are otherwise fit is very mainstream and for good reasons.

No harm in trying that and other stuff too.

The story is he was already fit and this was a stubborn area that doesn't respond.

That's a classic case for lipo.

Yes,and increase in activity and less eating. In a couple of months when I get lazy again I'll have a big gut again. For most people it's simple math, for a few maybe there's a medical reason. The OP is young and healthy,, a shift in diet and exercise and he'll lose the gut.

It sounds like he's already tried. He's a fit man with only that problem area. No harm in trying more ... but if it's still there and he cares enough about it, there is no reason to diss the lipo option.

Five dollars says he's stopping off for a beer or three after playing soccer and helping himself to seconds at the dinner table. Exercise is only half of it. It's those beers for doing a good job at the gym that'll get ya.

Lipo at 20 ? Someone seriously needs their head checked.

Exercise and watch the caloric intake & don't listen to a bunch of fatties who write restaurant reviews.

Um, this problem seems to show a relaxation of abdominal muscles and not overweight.

Having had a bit the same problem ... very long time ago , I am compelled to 5 minutes per day doing gymnastics working these muscles.

In one month you do not lose a gram but cheerfully you win a belt notch and you move with more ease.

Now at 65 I keeps this healthy habit without difficulty .

Sound advice with gymnastics

I'm still chuckling over the idiotic advice to have Lipo 5555

The OP clearly expressed that he exercises a lot and "can't" lose more weight. I see nothing wrong with continued natural attempts but I'm also pretty sure he would be a good candidate for lipo either right now or years later IF natural methods turn out not to work.

So many people think lipo is an answer for overweight when it isn't that in any way, but again, the main reason to do it is for SPOT issues as the OP reports.

Well i would like to take some calipers and a tape and find out how much fat he really has before saying what the issue/problem is.

There is no way you can give advice without seeing the guy and talk to him about his lifestyle/diet.

If you want a six pack it would be nice if you could pick your parents,if they have a gut chances are you will have one also.

Of course. We're all different. One size doesn't fit all.

The hardest component of fitness is dieting. If part of your goal is visual. Getting in shape, ie Cardio Vascular wise does not need to equate to having a six or eight pack. In fact..you can be in awesome shape and still pinch an inch.....if you want to get ripped and look like a billboard. Hire a great cameraman and cg guy and a dietician.

For some , the genticaly gifted its easy. for others it comes at a huge price. either cutting and dehydration and or very very serious restrictive dietary habits.......Drugs at your young age will put you on a no win street. Its diet. Calorie counting. AND muscle isolation. understanding how the abdominal muscles work is very very important. its the RA muscles and obilques and hitting them at diffrent angles. Also understanding the diffrence between the types of muscle fibers and how to train them helps.......

I highly doubt him or you could do 100 laps in a pool.

And I can assure you from experience that it takes more than a month and a few laps in the pool to lose the fat around your midsection.

That is the last place and often hardest place on a person where they will lose his or her fat.

Here is a sure fired way to lose most but not all of your belly fat.

For the next month for breakfast have a glass of cranberry juice with a teaspoon of Tabasco sauce.

For lunch have a glass of cranberry juice with Tabasco sauce.

For dinner have a glass of cranberry juice with Tobacco sauce.

In between those meals and whenever you feel hungry you should have a glass of water with 2 tablespoons of honey and a freshly squeezed lime.

Purchase a yoga ball and do 5 sets of 15-20 crunches each and every night.

Get a long stick and use it to do twists in order to work your oblique muscles.

Start with a pushup and then stand up and jump all in one motion for 5 sets of 12-15.

Use the yoga ball to do side crunches for 5 sets of 12-15.

Try as often as you can to engage your abdominal muscles even when walking, sitting or laying down.

I often do some crunches even while laying on the sofa watching TV.

And finally, lay off the alcohol and have as much sex as you possibly can.

It won't be easy, but I can tell you from experience, it works.

The idea of targeted fat loss is a myth, the body will loose where it looses. Check your BMI which will tell you where you stand overall. The last few pounds are the most challenging to loose and just a bit of extra calories can make it more difficult.

I swim 100 laps every day...when I started six years ago I did 30 laps and near collapsed in the shower.

Six weeks later I was fit as hell.

Goes without saying during this period I cut out alcohol and pizzas and stuck to a light lunch...but it's easily doable....especially at 20...I was 37 when I started.
