MODENA: -- An italian restaurant has been named the best in the world.

Run by chef Massimo Bottura, the Osteria Francescana can be found in the Italian city of Modena.

It beat off competition from 49 other eateries around the world.

The restaurant has been bombarded with requests to reserve a table. A spokesperson says it is fully booked for until October or November.

The restaurant, which has three Michelin stars, is known for its eccentric interpretation of Italian cuisine.

“Oops I dropped the lemon tart” is a dessert that has been deliberately dropped on a plate before being served.

Or alternatively the Maitre d' will pass wind in your face before the amuse-bouche.

Watched a show about him. He was nearly crucified by the Romans, Italians for his departure from the norm. He creates very interesting dishes.

I am pretty sure the top 50 were vetted before it came down to the final judgement. This guy has 3 Michelin stars and there isn't even a restaurant for them that is worth rating at this point, in all of Thailand. Interesting thing for me is it wasn't in France or Japan.
