Thai embassy clarifies why more Thais are rejected entries to South Korea

this will tarnish the image of Thailand

I don't think this is the reason the image of Thailand is tarnished.

Correctamundo.

If this were the only problem the Thai image has worldwide, it could be easily fixed. It isn't. Many countries basically do not encourage Thais to come and wander around, they are not trusted and are known to be devious and lawless. I have personal experience of this in both the UK and the USA.

The prevalence of road incidents caught by dashcams lately is very revealing of the Thai nature.

Good guys in, bad guys out.

Heard that before, but just can't remember where?

58.1% of all Thais in South Korea are on overstay and potentially working, shocked.

Why are Thais going to S.Korea to work if things are so good here and unemployment is almost nil.

Seems like Thais are not all that honest in south Korea.

Thai, Honest, South Korea.

Three words, that in this context just makes for laughs. cheesy.gif

Er, that's four (4) words...

Not a very clever comment as per usual.

Those caught should just be grateful detention conditions are not reciprocal.

I met a Thai woman busted in South Korea for working illegally as was full of bile towards the place. Did the police knock her about a bit to get a confession? No. Did the police yell at her at all or make any threats? No. Did they try to extract any money from her on the quiet? No.

Was she made to sleep on the floor of an overcrowded cell? No, she was put in a dormitory with other Thais. Was she served inedible swill? Well it wasn't very good, but the authorities did serve an approximation of Thai food. Was she given access to a lawyer? Yes. Was she allowed to contact home? Yes. Was an exercise period granted? Yes.

Was she guilty of what they said she was...? Yes, but that wasn't the point. They are a shower of bastards over there and that's that, apparently. No, she wasn't interested in how Koreans in Thailand could expect to be treated under the same circumstances.

I left it at that. There is no point in arguing with such a mindset...

Nothing changes! All pride no shame! thumbsup.gifwhistling.gifsad.pngwai.gif

Who employs these Thais and who would actually want to hire a Thai in South Korea?

I guess Thai restaurant?

Koreans employ the Thais.

There is more to a Thai worker than hookers and restaurant staff.

Think cheaper factory workers.

Think farm workers.

A small minority of illegal migrant Thai workers are in the restaurant business or the hooking game.

Ditto a small minority in factories, as the cities are easier to control, and check on with regular police and immigration officials.

The vast majority of illegal Thai migrant workers are working on farms out in the countryside. They work for half what a Korean would get, yet as in the West, most Koreans don't want that type of work, or are unwilling to accept the wages on offer.

Their pay is generally very good (for a Thai manual worker), (sending home 30-40k each is not uncommon), they are often husband/wife teams, get overtime, work 6 day weeks, free accomodation, wifi, get to talk with Line/Skype back to friends and family daily.

As per usual with these types of jobs, the first 4-6 months earnings are used to pay off debts they've incurred getting there in the first place.

Who can blame them, when they are on say 10-12k pm as a hard working couple here, and can send home at least 5 times that amount over there.

For the experience, learning a foreign language, exploring a foreign country's culture, etc...

Oh sorry, we're talking Thai folks: for the money.

Where do you get this info?

Should it not be very easy for Korean authorities to kick out illegal workers if they work in factories and farms? This should be quite easy to do.

Most Thai girls working in massage shops in Korea are recruited via a Thai agent and travel there in a group. Unfortunately it never turns out to be as lucrative as it's promised as the agent and the shop take a hefty cut. Apparently Korean men (in Korea) are not renowned for their tipping.

Thai authorities need to address the problem as to why are they so un-contented with their home country, however it is a relief to know that the hordes of valued tourists from the north don't do the same , probably because there is always a political adviser travelling with them, Thai's do this everywhere to a certain extent, however they are not orphans, others do it also, for other reasons....................................coffee1.gif

Seems like a money thing. Thais can make more there and Koreans can pay em less and/or work em harder. No need to dig deeper than that.

There is no way Thais work harder in the fields than the Koreans..

Maybe. But they work for half the wages a Korean would want. And they are more than happy with those wages. Ditto the east Europeans and Portugese working as farm labourers on farms throughout the east of England.

# Wife's village has 12 couples working on the same farm. Mostly undercover, so not seasonal work, hence all year round produce. Strawberries, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. They do all the work from seeding, picking right through to packaging. They are well looked after, and happy bunnies, saving and sending a bunch of money back each month.

# Easier in the cities and factories. Not so easy in the countryside and small farms. Plus this is still Asia, ie cash in the hand makes a local copper/mayor/council official turn a blind eye.
