Changing Visa Extension Types

Featured Replies

I have a question I'm hoping someone might be able to provide the correct answer to and hopefully their answer is based on experience and not 'because I think so'.

For the past 7 years I have always renewed my visa extension based on marriage to a Thai. I would like to get my extension renewed this year based on retirement instead, can this be done?

I can provide:

- I can show my original Business Visa from 7 years ago in my old passport

- I am over 50 yrs old (will be turning 56 next month)

- I can obtain an notarized affidavit from the US Consulate showing that my monthly income is $3k USD (~100k THB) as well as provide supporting documentation of that income if needed

I will provide required form (w/photo) and passport copies as needed.

So can I change my extension reason from marriage to retirement?

Also if I can I am wondering do I just need one copy of all or two as the marriage extension requires?

TIA for all replies,

dingdongrb

Moved to here.

Visas are not extended. You can change the reason for your extension of stay from marriage to retirement.

You will only need one TM7 form with one set of supporting documents attached.

You will need to attach the original of the income affidavit to it.

You will need copies of your passport pages and TM6 departure cared.

You wife may need to be with you to give her approval to do the change.

You will apply for the extension at the Promenada office.

Sorry, I'll piggyback here not to multiply similar topics:

I'd like to switch from 1yr Marriage to 1yr Parent non-immi O extension (live in Phuket, married, i'm the father and it's stated on birth cert.). Can it be done w/o leaving Thailand? What docs are required in addition to:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Mothers ID
  • Trebian Baan (or residence certificate if renting, I assume?)
  • Mother & Son in tow

Thank you.

According to the written rules you do not qualify for an extension based upon being the parent of a Thai since you are married to your child's mother. The extension is only meant to be for single parents.

Some offices may do it but most will not. You would have to ask Phuket immigration what their policy is.
