Jonathan Fairfield
Police shut down UDD’s anti-cheating centre and cancels planned press conference BANGKOK:-- Police forcibly shut down the centre to prevent cheating in the referendum of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship and cancelled a planned press conference scheduled Sunday morning of the group at Imperial Lat Phrao department store. The cancellation of the press conference led to the live broadcast of the event through its affiliated TV channel planned by the UDD. UDD chairman Jatuporn Promphan accused Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha of backtracking on his earlier promise not to close down the anti-cheating centre. He asked the media to check the prime minister’s remarks on the centre on the previous three occasions with the recent fourth remark made after his return from India to find out that the latter’s words cannot be trusted. “The NCPO can only seize our premise and sign boards, but we will press ahead with our mission for democracy,” said Jatuporn. He went on saying that the UDD’s anti-referendum cheating centres would be transformed into centres to receive complaints about cheating. The UDD, he added, will on Monday lodged a petition with the United Nations at the Escap office. slapout
UDD seems realy opposite to what they stand for United Front for Dictators against Democracy as they want to dictate to others what must happen and I thought Jatuporn was supposed to be in prison but I could be wrong He is appealling his sentence to the Supreme court, thus out on bail again. I would laugh if the decision on appeal, is to double his sentence with no chance of early release. Serve the little pri.. right.
halloween
I thought this idiot Jatuporn just received a two year prison sentence without parole. One of his earlier bail conditions was that he didn't engage in political activity. One thing for sure, he hasn't served that sentence yet, or any other. chainarong
This is not a good look in anybody's book, not only is there no Democracy in Thailand there is no right of redress under section 44 , regardless of who you are you should be able to speak within reason , stifling speech or opinions with heavy handed tactic's may backfire on the road to reconciliation and recovery , there maybe just cause from some of the participants to remind the Junta , what comes around goes around ............................................. What happened is exactly what the UDD wanted to happen. I laughed when I read yesterday that the meeting will be held at < address, floor number, time> and said 'we'll all be there..." Dear oh dear. How to get Grumpy and Dumpy to make themselves look bad. So much work has gone into trying to make this illegal junta government look like the epitome of democratic reform. All down the toilet now... Winniedapu
So much for reconciliation. Perhaps if the bad guy in Dubai passes away Jatuporn and his kind will behave more like Chalerm and Tarit. Low profile while busy with ear medicine. Lots of comments about Thaksin being responsible for everything (and some about Prayuth being the hero of our times), but are they really sensile? Thaksin is a wealthy man, he lives in Dubai and enjoys influence and accommodation around the world. Why would he give a damn about Thailand, or Prayuth or anything associated? He might be obsessed with it all, but I doubt it. He either has a plan or he doesn't. If he does, surely we should be talking about his plan. not obsessively blaming him for everything from the drought to the state of the roads in Thailand. If he has no plan, why (apart from extremes of fear of the man) would anyone be talking about him? If Thaksin has power in Thailand, it is added to by the obsessive amounts of power given to him by people who appear to be both delusional and obsessive about him and can't stop themselves from saying he's responsible for all the travails of Thailand. We know that's what the rather dim junta-ites thing, but let's face it, thinking isn't what they're terrifically good at so why slavishly adopt their views? That doesn't speak well of the state of their or their follower's mental health. In Town
It seems a shame that the current government would not allow the center to operate.
