200 baht to go 1 k in Thailand is a rip off and if that was approved by the government

shame on them. If Thais paid that all across Thailand there would be rioting on the

streets and everyone would become taxi drivers to feed at the trough. bah.gif

I don't know about the rest of Thailand, but, it's already happened here in Phuket.

The money is so good that there were a bunch of illegal taxis operating, probably no more than a hundred, or so.

The legal bandits complained to the authorities about them.

After a couple of arrests, slap-on-the-wrists of the illegal taxi operators, the authorities, in their wisdom, to fix the problem they decided to make the illegal taxis legal for a small sum of money.

Of course, this opened the floodgates to anyone that owned a car in Phuket. Hundreds and hundreds of normal folk got their family car registered as a taxi.

Did this huge increase in the supply of taxis bring prices down? Did it #%*!!

A one KM Taxi ride in Bangkok would cost less than 40 baht, so there is definitely something bad about the Phuket fare of 200 baht.

of course it is a rip off but you cant just go putting it on youtube or facebook. wonder how much they had to lean on him to get him to change his tune. probably a polite reminder that we are all temporary guests here would have been enough.

And that 40 baht ride in Bangkok would be in a proper air-conditioned car, not some micro pickup that's been crudely converted into a songtaew where you'll be breathing in exhaust fumes and getting soaked in the rain.

"Phuket Gov. Chamroen Tipayapongtada on Monday said the fare Brown paid was approved in 2013 and therefore not illegal and not something that should be complained about."

So you're not allowed to point out blatant overcharging now?

How was it an overcharge?

Did you even bother to read the first paragraph 'you' posted?

Only those with the bare minimum income to live in Thailand, or just cheap bastards...

That are still whining about a legally charged taxi fare..

If it was a one baht over charge...

Go ahead! Make a ranting video clip of being an overcharged farang.

Or complain like the Thailand haters you are..

The amazing part.. You all won't leave Thailand..

So, he could have used his smart mouth to get the authorities to justify why he paid 200B for a 1km ride and why this extortionate price has been authorized ..

I will watch the whole of the video later, but it seems like he may have fallen foul of Thailands deformation laws.

The crooked local government had authorized the criminal taxi mafia pricing scheme .. Therefore it's all legal, above board and beyond question.

Sickening.

He looks pretty normal to me.... Definitely not deformed.
