THERAN: -- Iran says it has foiled “one of the largest jihadist terrorist plots ever planned on its territory.”

Quoted by the semi-official Isna press agency, National Security Council secretary Ali Shamkhani is quoted as saying that Iranian security forces have arrested members of a network that was planning suicide bombings in Tehran during Ramadan.

He described it as a “major plot by Sunni Muslim militants against the Shi’ite Islamic Republic” and described ISIL as “Iran’s number one enemy”.

Is security a problem in Iran?
Not for the general public, analysts say.

Large cities are generally safe from attacks from organisations like ISIL.

However, the country’s security forces are often targeted by jihadist militants or Kurdish fighters near the borders with Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Three soldiers and one police officer have died in border attacks over the last two weeks.

22 militants have been killed.

Sunni vs Shi’ite
Ultraradical Sunni organisations like ISIL consider the Shi’ite Muslim community as heretics.

Iran is a predominantly Shi’ite country.

What they are saying
“A series of bomb attacks planned for the coming weeks in several places in the country, mainly in Tehran, has been foiled,” – Security Ministry statement.

A Muslim world united would be an unbeatable match for US/NATO wars of aggression against civilian populations. Instead, they worry over minute differences in ancient doctrine and history while ignoring the Quran!

So far, Iran (as has Saudi and UAE) has dodged the bombings of countries in which the US is waging illegal wars.

Watch Vice TV, Season 4, Episode 11 on Iran's nuclear programme to get the bigger picture.

Arrested or assassinated ? Looked pretty dead to me.

4 x AK's = massive plot.

Yeah right.

Errr... Saudi hasn't avoided bombings. You seem to have forgotten Khobar Towers. Admittedly, that was 20 years ago, before al Qaeda declared war on "the far enemy," but I'm pretty sure there have been several more recently that received very little coverage in the U.S. controlled press. I think there have been a number of attacks by a group called Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which, curiously enough, is being supported by the current war in Yemen (the Houthis were being pretty successful in rooting them out before the Saudis intervened).
