I realise this posting may be on the wrong forum, but as I will be in Samui in a couple of weeks I thought someone may be able to help.

My Thai fiance’ and I are hoping to marry early next year and we are looking for a company/agency that can arrange/obtain all the relevant documents that we will require to marry, and for the marriage to be recognised legally in both Thailand and the UK.

I am aware of the process (From the British Embassy Web Site) but am limited to the time I can actually spend obtaining the relevant documents etc. Hence our need to find a company/agency to do all the leg work for us.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You will need to spend a couple of days in Bangkok first.

Go to the embassy in the morning, and apply for the Affirmation of Freedon to Marry. This can be collected the next day.

Then get the affirmation translated into Thai. There are shops nearby, ask one of the 'touts" outside the embassy.

You will then need to get the translation authenticated and translation certified. This needs to be done here : -

The Legalisation and Naturalisation Division,

Department of Consular Affairs,

Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (www.mfa.go.th)

123 Chaeng Wattana Road, Laksi District, Bangkok 11120

Tel. 0– 2575 1056–59, 0–2981 7171

(08.30 – 11.30 and 13.00 – 15.30)

You will then have the neccesary paperwork.

The Agents (see touts in front of the embassy) can provide an all in service where the will help fill out forms and take you to the legalisation office .. for a fee.

I did it without using an agent, and it was easy enough.

Like I said, plan on needing 2 days in Bangkok to sort this out, leave 3 to be safe.

For the wedding to be recognised as legal in the UK it will need to be registered at an Amphur office. The Agents can even take you and get it done in Bangkok, or you can do it iin Samui.. up to you.

Thanks for the info Totster.

I don't suppose you know roughly how much the Agents/Touts charge for the "All in Service".

Did you need to translate your marriage certificate from Thai to English for the Brit Embassy to register the marriage.

I have read conflicting articles about the Amphur. Some say you need someone from the Amohurs office for the wedding to be recognised others say you just take your papers to the Amphurs office.

All that is required for the marriage to be legal in the UK is that you go with all the correct paperwork to the Amphur office and register the marriage.

You will get two marriage certificates, and congratulations, you are married.

There is no legal requirement to register the marriage at the Embassy, I'm aware it can be done, but not required.

You can get a sworn translation of the wedding certificate, if you wish to use it in the UK for legal purposes.

Sorry I can't give you a price for the "all in service", as I didn't even ask them.
