SteveSamui6262
I really wonder if those contaminated donuts actually find their way to the trash can. In this country it is probably considered an unnecessary (cash) loss. I never purchase ANY food here that isn't securely prepackaged. People walking through the shopping aisles coughing and sneezing, not to mention man-handling the food items is a clear and present danger. Also, be advised rainy season is now beginning, which marks the start of the flu season here.
RBOP
Was eating at the new Japanese food mall on Sukhumvit and could hear a rat family fighting (or least squeaking) in the walls.

renaissanc
Luckily the rat was not spotted by a Red Shirt; otherwise, the UDD would be making another protest at the United Nations building where they tend to make all their complaints.

Cake Monster
It is not just Tops, I have witness on many occasions, Roaches on the cold meats at the local Tesco, and at Big C in Pattaya I have also seen a rat happily munching its way through a box of kelloggs Corn flakes in Big C Pattaya Nua When this issue was brought to the attention of shop floor staff, it was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders, followed by an exit stage left. tropo
Would you like a rat with that? Tops store shut after rodent dances on the donuts BANGKOK: -- A "Tops Daily" store in Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, has been shut after a rat was filmed nibbling and clambering all over the donuts in the bakery section. The video posted online shocked a Thai public that demanded swift action from the store, reported Daily News. The brown rodent is seen in the minute long clip feasting on a chocolate donut as it scampers about the bakery products before disappearing above the counter into the heart of the store. Daily News online were on the case and executives of Central Food Retail Co Ltd were quick to react shutting the store in Soi 33 for cleaning and calling in pest control experts. They issued a groveling apology as they attempted to reassure customers. Pattaraporn Penpraphat a deputy marketing and PR manager said: "As soon as we received notification about this incident we closed the store. Everything is being cleaned thoroughly. "All products and equipment in the bakery section has been thrown away and is being replaced with new. The owner of the building from whom we rent has been contacted to find out how the mouse got in and out of the store to ensure that it cannot happen again. "A pest control company has been contacted and is carrying out a full operation against a range of pests including rodents. "We would like to apologize unreservedly to our customers and assure them that we will do everything to ensure that this is not repeated. All staff in all stores have been contacted as a matter of urgency to ensure that our high standards of cleanliness are maintained strictly and at all times". Source: Daily News -- 2016-06-23 "The owner of the building from whom we rent has been contacted to find out how the mouse got in and out of the store to ensure that it cannot happen again." It's a mouse.
Wilsonandson
The guy who filmed this and sent it to the media better watch his back. A multi-billionaire has just made it his sole mission in life to hunt him down. A phone call to the Editor of the news. A cash transaction. Knock, knock, Bang. 5555 Good luck, pal. whaleboneman
The mouse is definatelly a rat. Problem is Thais can't tell the difference between a rat and a mouse. Bit of a stupid question to ask the owner how the rodent got in. We are talking about a small rat here not a <deleted> elephant. A rat or mouse will get through the smallest hole Yes, apparently some can even get up your anus if you're not careful. But seriously, I'd rather see some rats and bugs any day then wonder what they're using to exterminate them. I can remember standing in the line at Disneyland many years ago and noticing the complete absence of any living creature other than the humans. Not even an ant or fly could be seen. swerver
Which Tops store???? Sukhumvit, Soi 33. And which department store??? Central? Robinson???? Asoke??? Nana???? Anyone???? YES you are right but what difference does it make, Central Group boys whose forefather coming from China as immigrant started as rice merchant in a shop house off Sukhumvit Road while gobbling up adjacent land on which now sit the Central Flagship store, and the offspring is still in the gobbling up mode, latest one gobbled up is Big C and after gobbling it up immediately removed Xtra from the Former Bg C Xtra stores plastic shopping bags. After all the Head honcho Supermarket in the Central Group is TOPS. Oh was that the end of gobbling up Big C. Of course not Central Group also gobbled up Big C Vietnam. So by now which ever way you turn you're being robbed by the Central Group boys you may as well call them "The Chicago Boys" they are the clique that received business training at the Chicago University and who ran Russia into the ground under Mr. "Vodka" Boris Yeltsin. Years before a similar group ran Chili into the ground, the rest is history. Forget about Re-form capitalism by now 2016 is tooo much dug in. Because, the working-class has let them. This is not just in Thailand, it is worldwide.

TallGuyJohninBKK
I'm waiting for the police to announce that they've arrested the rat video poster for defaming Thailand's reputation... Meanwhile, it's not just Tops and their one branch. Awhile back, in the middle of the day, I was browsing the bakery section in different large supermarket in Central BKK and noticed a number of roaches scurrying all around and over the baked goods out on display. That kind of put an end to my bakery purchases there. And don't forget, not too long back, there was a similar rat episode with a McDonald's store in Hatyai... http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/908078-mcdonalds-fast-food-chain-store-admits-rat-at-its-hat-yai-store/ Thailand, the hub of food cleanliness. JayBird
I quite often see Cockroaches in malls and supermarkets (esp. Big C). Even at the Paragon in the Food Hall saw a couple of cockroaches waiting for a meal at the dining table. I think the roaches are winning.
