WapiJohn
I have been asked by my school to help put on a play for Christmas. A nativity play was suggested, I am looking for a very short script with a pretty simple English dialogue suitable for M1 and M2. The full nativity play is far to complicated for my students, so I am looking for a role-play nativity with limited spoken English ( I was told, keep it simple ) Any suggestions out there ? Hong Kong Phooey
Not sure if these are of any use to you but have a look:- http://www.dramatix.org/Linkpages/Christmas.html - many free plays scripts written by Christians http://www.links2love.com/christmas_songs.htm - freebie songs to download (useful if you fancy writing the script yourself ! ) http://www.outoftheark.com/nativity_play.php - some free scripts http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/explore/drama.htm - free short play scripts written by parents of homeschoolers I'll have another hunt through my favourites files and school stuff to see if there's anything else which might be useful... I reckon you'll struggle to find a free play script incorporating the donkey-no-room-at-the-inn storyline though.

I managed to find a nice short nativity script at http://www.kidssundayschool.com I can edit this to suit my classes. Now I am also looking for short plays or skits on a christmas theme. Pantomime or fairy stories for example. Edited November 15, 2006 by WapiJohn
Loaded
I think Thais would love good ol' fashioned British Pantomime. Loads of visual comedy and a touch of sauciness. Ooo ah missus, nudge nudge wink wink.

Ooo ah missus, nudge nudge wink wink. I agree, I am British and I am sure the Thais would love our sense of humour when it comes to pantomimes. But where can I get hold of a short panto script? I have seen my students perform short plays, Thai dancing and modern dancing. So I know they have the ability to put on a pantomime.

Let us know how it goes. Doing a nativity play in Thailand for me is a hot potato. They dont understand it and i dont have the time to explain it all either. Sorry - we shouldnt explain, we should demonstrate...........Now then, about that virgin birth.!
PeaceBlondie
My temptation in planning any Christmas activity in English is that I might bite off more than I can chew. They don't need to understand the story, its background, history, religion, development, etc. Humour would be great.
Ijustwannateach
Is this the right time to bring up the whole "Christmas in Thai schools" discussion? Had it on another site a few years back, and it's still a good topic. What if you're the only teacher at a school and you're Jewish? Or Muslim? Or atheist, in a kind of strong anti-religious vein? The whole "white skinned foreigner means Santa Claus for Christmas" is a sore point for me anyway. "Steven"
Barney_the_Dinosaur
I can script this for you from memory.... "Lo there is a star in the east" "I bring you tidings of great joy" "There is no room at the inn. Go ye to the stable and put the baby in the manger"
PeaceBlondie
Cast it in Thai and English. JOSEPH: Hi, I'm a native of this place, my ancestors were all born here. Can I have a room? INNKEEPER: But this teenage girl with you is pregnant and you're not married to her. Is she a bargirl? JOSEPH: Good grief, my dear china, can't you see she's about to squeeze it out any minute now? INNKEEPER: Mr. Joseph, do you have a passport, and a visa for Bethlehem? Is your girlfriend here on a mere visa stamp? Have you paid 1,900 baht at the proper embassy? JOSEPH: Do you have somtam here, aroi mahk? We're hungry......

bradthai
been hit with the responsibility again this year. do something in english for xmas. last year went down like a lead balloon. non ep classes doing their usual song and dance, along with jilted girlfriends or hurt mums. so this year, 2 plays from m2, and 2 songs from m1. put some thought into the plays. and then wrote santa and his bufallo, the reindeer conk out over thailand because of the heat. santa phones reindeer isuzu and they replace the deer with bufalloes. santas happy new mia. santas missus is really nagging him. the elves chip in and get him a new mia. both plays, so far have met with applause at rehearsal. partly because we are, this year, presenting in both english and thai. got the kids to do their own translation. recorded the script onto cd because of the size of the venue, and the lack of microphones at the venue. too hard with 2 mics and a cast that puts benhurr to shame. can you write anything appropriate yourself. suitable for their english, and their performing ability. good luck and merry christermus
PeaceBlondie
If I may beat ijustwannateach to the punch bowl - you don't have to be Santa Claus if you don't want to, especially if you're as skinny as a rail. You don't have to sing Christmas carols, although I once imitated my ex-wife and Celine Dion with a version of O Holy Night that set the northern provinces on fire...every student in Thailand can sing "Jingle Bells." The Dan Sai Kid
My school is doing Aladdin, it is a major undertaking with all 30 farang teachers having to do something. I am down for showing people to their seats - ha ha - it was that or choreography! Last year I was forced to do Santa at my old work. The costume was terrible. If anyone wants to see it I can post it here.

nijjhar
Hi, I can give scripts for Nativity to prove the Virgin Birth of Jesus and on each Parable I can write a script for a documentary. Watch my web site for details.
