BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha made it clear that he will not step down even though the charter is rejected by the people on the August 7 referendum.

The prime minister made known on his voice and stance when a reporter cited the announced resignation of British Prime Minister David Cameron after last week referendum by the people turned out to withdraw from the European Union.

Gen Prayut said it was a different referendum that could not cite for comparison.

Besides the government did not draft the charter, he said

He said he would not resign because he is the person who created rules and the entry (to power) is also different.

Besides problems facing his country also are different, he said and stressed that he has to take full responsibility of the future of the country and everybody must help.

Meanwhile deputy prime minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan also said the referendum was different which the prime minister has no reason to resign if the draft charter is rejected in the referendum.

On suspects the time is approaching when this thug might be "stepped down" with his having a say in it.

I think you may be right. 'Under the bus' time is approaching methinks.

"Take full responsibility".... with full amnesty! smile.png

"Take full responsibility"....with full amnesty!smile.png "

It's a beautiful thing isn't it, the words just so effortlessly slip from his moth without even batting an eye.

Hey junta fanboy's please tell us how he takes full responsibility for anything at all whilst self granted amnesty for past present and future???

Doing the honorable thing is a concept which I believe is unknown to Thais. Cameron's resignation in the wake of the Brexit vote is deemed by some as an honorable act. The Japanese have an honor system based on shame.

Japanese business and political leaders who feel they have brought shame on themselves or their family etc, sometimes commit suicide.

In Thailand, wrongdoers have to be dragged kicking and screaming before they admit they are wrong.

I see absolutely no chance of a resignation or admission of error under any circumstances from the subject of this topic.

"Gen Prayut said it was a different referendum that could not cite for comparison."

Plus he and his cronies are not done feeding at the trough . He is in this for himself. It would kill his fragile ego if

he stepped down and things got better.

who would take over if he did step down? there is 5 million dollar reward given to any politician in africa who steps down voluntarily. it has not been claimed for a few years. maybe the good general could try to get them to include asia so he would have some incentive to leave.

yes, you are the ruler by whose rules the country runs, it runs left, right, backwards. forwards, but mostly it runs in place... and that is why the country is having problems. Here is a challenge: make one rule that is as straight as your hair parted to the left... I bet you a fiver, you can't.

What a bunch of BS. Trying to justify not resigning as if he's legitimate PM from democratic means. Stupid question and stupid reply.

Do you think he has used up all of his "greenie points" that he accumulated while running the army or do you think that someone else is chomping at the bit to have their name written down in the history books as the "Savior" of Thailand. Oh how soon we forget. Two years should be enough to put your brand on anything.

"...The prime minister made known on his voice and stance.." - the worst kept secret in Thailand has now been exposed.

Maybe, he should take his cue from another general, and leave while he can.

He'd need to be elected before he could step down. I mean, he took office by force, why relinquish it? The reporter was either being cheeky or indescribably obtuse.

Don't know. What I do know is that in my opinion, apart from the little light relief which he has unintentionally given, this man is an unmitigated disaster for Thailand; bot he and Thailand are a standing joke in the international community. If I were Thai I'd be screaming in embarrassment. Sorry, no I wouldn't Khoin Thai maid ruchak quam kuay kern.

I reallly don't know why the amaat chose this little guy to front their campaign for... not so much making sure that Thaksin doesn't get power, but making sure someone else doesn't. Because if that person does get power, Thaksin will be back like a rat up a drainpipe, that deal has already been done. The Amaat would be in serious trouble and Prayuth and Co would be finished, and I do mean finished. Thaksin is typically Chinese, devious, corrupt and holds a serious grudge. Make no mistake, this guy Prayuth will start killing soon just like he did in 2010, because after the referendum (which I believe he will lose), the only legitimacy he will be able to muster is fear.

And he's starting to panic. Fear written all over him. And his dumpy mate. They thought they would save Thailand because they believe the other guy will not satisfy their agenda. In fact they've highlighted that Thailand really should have been colonised...

No Cameron is a quitter....right after he said that the Brits weren't quitters. biggrin.png Instead of leading his country through this difficult time , he makes it worse.

Prayut is right , the country is not ready for real elections and "Thai" democratie.

I think he's following the "Bouterse" way , you know the guy from Suriname , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%A9si_Bouterse

No, he is simply doing it his way with full backing of section 44 and nobody can do anything about it, under the "law" anyway.

Cameron did the right thing, it has to be someone who backed "leave" taking the reins to deal with all the problems they are going to get.

If the rigging fails, then at least change the Process.

2 drafts already still-born.

Only some hand-picked sycophants pretending to represent the whole country have been involved.

And the Govt is puzzled why its citizens are wary.

You cannot compare UK with Thailand, they are essentially opposite ends of the spectrum.

I do not know? We have one politician who seem to have lost all support, saying "you can not get rid of me"

he is making far more than 5 million dollars now.

In Thailand, wrongdoers have to be dragged kicking and screaming before they admit they are wrong.

Which explains a lot about the state of things, because in order to grow, improve, progress you must first admit wrongs or failings and learn from them. Applies equally to cultures, business, society.

Sort of an addendum. I've just understood why the amaat picked this little fella.

They wanted someone who would pull the trigger on the redshirts if things got out of hand. Prayuth has already proved he is prepared to kill Thais to get what the amaat want (Rajaprasong 2010).

Abracadabra - Prayuth's your man. Psychotic enough, Narcissistic. Borderline psychopathic (maybe more than borderline). Royalist. Not too bright. Dubious principles.

Bingo!

Every advantage. But this changes my perception of the way this will pan out.
