PM prays for safe return of three missing helicopter crew members

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha today said he has prayed for the three missing crew members of a Royal Thai Air Force helicopter which went missing on Saturday.

He said he heard of the incident with concern and has prayed that they all are safe.

He said it was possible that the turbulent weather in the mountainous areas might be a cause.

Meanwhile the Royal Thai Air Force continued search and rescue operation of a helicopter and its three crew members for the third consecutive day today after it went missing on Saturday while on a mission to deliver supplies to a mountain-top radar station in Chanthaburi province.

The searches on air using helicopters and eight para-motors and on foot were joined by soldiers from the Army Area 19 and 14 and local people.

The Navy also joined the search.

The searches focussed on valleys close to the cliff on Khao Chamao mountain adjoining Rayong province where a villager was reportered to have sighted the helicopter flying over at low altitude.

Visibility was poor today with clouds and turbulent winds in the mountain range.

Message sent : "I'm worried about our soldiers"

Message desired to be received: "I'm a devout man, a true believer, a good man. You can trust me".

Colour me cynical but... psychology and suggestion I understand.

"Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha today said he has prayed for the three missing crew members of a Royal Thai Air Force helicopter which went missing on Saturday."

They better turn up safe, or else Prayut will have to bust god for insubordination.

Witchdoctor.

They will return safe...in a next life.

Dont hear him praying for ordinary Thai people who go missing or killed

as long as his beloved Military personel are ok he is happy.

Its time the power was handed back to the people.

In other words he's doing naff all

Get down on yer knees, close your eyes, and ask the bogey man for help. Not exactly what I'd call a master plan

The military has quite a number of mountain-top radar stations dating back to the 1950's. One wonders if they are really necessary nowadays both in terms of the threat (from communists???) and the technological advances since the 1950's. Does the military just hang on to these bases because of the prime real estate, the need to justify its own bloated budget and a lack of balance between necessity (what the military needs) and desire (what the military wants) when deciding on its strategic requirements.

The Navy also joined the search.

He is going to send some submarines up there too ?

Maybe you can help?

This news report from Thai PBS shows you where to start looking.

I tried last night on google maps but the sat maps are out of date. Not today! Up-to-date maps now showing.

So why not join in the hunt for the missing helicopter.

Start at the radar station and head south east. Post if you see any wreakage.

On google main page type :-

Khao Chamao Water Fall

Highway 4023 , Phawa , 22160 Kaeng Hang Maeo , Chanthaburi

Open in google maps.

To your west is the radar station. Good luck!

Strange, I watched a programme a while back on Thai Television with my GF (she translated most of it but I saw the graphs and details ) about the military tracking MH370. They ( the Thai Military ) had all the details of a civilian aircrafts movements both vertically and horizontally, and in fact they de-bunked the idea that it was heading South and East but was last seen heading West towards the Andaman islands before they lost track of it.

But they now have one of their own military aircraft that "should" have an EPIRB sending out a signal in an emergency, I also know that UK helicopter pilots have personal locator beacons on them. Maybe the Thai military don't have them ?

Even a Strobe light beacon would help, escpecially at night....these are fitted to life jackets.

But / So how can they not find this aircraft and the 3 crew ......?

EPIRB - Emergency Position Indicator Radio Beacon.

He didn't seem to care less when one of his soldiers died form heat exhaustion doing laps of the parade ground.

Just love his tafferta blue formal top jacket. A picture of Thai sartorial elegance.

A picture of Thai narcissism.

I'm sorry if they have - almost certainly - perished in this crash. In a badly maintained, old Vietnam War-era chopper, probably.

Odd though - all this official worry for three servicemen, yet not so much for 17 dead schoolkids in Chiang Rai.
