Big Bang theory tested in Phitsanulok - Grannie has the answer

PHITSANULOK: -- Facebook users throughout Phitsanulok were mystified earlier in the week after a "big bang" was heard coming from the sky. People in several districts heard the noise, and some saw a flash as they were having their Monday morning breakfast.

Now a local grannie seems to have the answer. Bualorm Chalormprai who lives in Plai Chimpon district heard the noise too - just seconds before something came crashing through her roof smashing into a picture of a respected monk, reported Sanook.

The rock that landed at her feet was too hot to handle. "In fact twenty four hours later, it was still warm," said Bualorm who had initially reported the matter to Phitsanulok police thinking some kids might be up to no good.

But when a neighbor spoke of a flash in the sky around about the same time she put two and two together.

Now the 5cm suspected meteorite is in pride of place in her home and she can't wait to show the grandchildren.

"It must have come from outer space," she said proudly.

Forgot about the fact that it could possibly be dangerous. Let's let the kids have some fun with it?

Looks like a normal stony meteorite to me, the only danger is it hitting you on the way down.

NARIT says mysterious object is meteoroid

PHITSANULOK: -- The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) says a mysterious object that fell and pierced through the roof tiles of a house in Phitsanulok province on Monday night might be a meteoroid.

NARIT deputy director-general Dr Sarun Posayajinda said from what he had seen on online media there is high possibility that the mysterious object might be a meteoroid.

He said as far as he learned from the news media, there was a loud bang as if it was a gunshot and then the object fell and pierced through the roof tiles of a house in Tambon Plaichumpol of Muang district, Phitsanulok province.

Although he has not yet seen with his eyes but just through what the media had shown and explained, there was high possibility that it was a meteoroid.

Meteoroid is a small rocky or metallic body travelling through outer space.

It was similar to the meteoroids that fell in Phitsanulok and in Kanchanaburi last year, he said.

However to exactly determine whether it is meteoroid, it needs to be sent for laboratory test, he said.

It could be a chondrite or rocky meteoroid or metal meteoroid or mixed body.

But from the observation of the object, there was traces of burns and melting on the surface of the object from its atmospheric entry.

He said meteorite fall on earth is a normal phenomenon as each year there are over one million kilo weight of meteorites falling on earth, whether into the sea or on earth.

Meteoroid is chemically harmless and is favourite among collectors.

There is no medium price for meteorites but if it comes from Mars, the value is high as a collector used to offer up to 10 million baht for it, he said.

Meanwhile latest report from NARIT said the owner of the house hit by meteorite has offered to give the object to the centre for scientific test.

Ok first of all No metor ever was still warm to touch after 24 hours They travel in near absolute zero temp. eno's most when they hit earth have frost on them after they hit land So Grannie stop smoking that crap your loony.

You might be looking for lottery numbers but the event could also be a sign from above on the state of Thai Buddhism?

I think that would depend on the thermal conductivity of the object. If it was indeed metallic, with a high thermal conductivity, extreme heat would rapidly heat the object to an even temperature ie hot.

Really?

Could you please explain why the US space shuttles were covered with heat resistant tiles the same as Russian space recovery vehicles?

Perhaps you could explain why there are so many clips taken from returning space vehicles showing parts that were glowing red hot and flames were visible too?

Perhaps you could also explain why when aircraft fly at very high speeds the friction of them passing through the air makes them hot?

Do you perhaps have a degree in physics or dynamics and can explain WHY meteorites still have frost on them after travelling through the atmosphere at thousands of miles an hour? Or why quite often the trails you see behind meteorites are described as the meteorite "burning up"?

Perhaps the granny DOES have an idea of what she is talking about and perhaps it could be YOU who is the loony.

No, he's not mad, the same thing applies in reverse. An object with low thermal conductivity having spent a long time (eons) in space will be close to absolute zero (-200oC). With a relatively short time exposed to high temperature the core will remain very cold, especially if the hot outer layers are being sloughed off by friction with the air.

Quite right billd766. Sometimes becoming so hot that the surface melts so that the surface is different on impact than prior to atmosphere entry.

I've never seen or heard of ice on a space shuttle when it's landed.i know I wouldn't want to touch a shuttle just after its landed.i think it's a meteor and might be worth a few baht.

Metirorites usually burn up in the atmosphere. True shouldn't be warm after twenty four hours but they would never, ever, have frost on them when the hit the earth.

Takes at least a Research institute with many PhD's to come to the conclusion that an object falling from the sky is a meteorite clap2.gifclap2.gif

Any other highlighting statements please?

Meteoroid - Meteor is most likely a translation error.

For me that looks like an rock with some green algae on it.

Strang boy,You should do a little research before mouthing off about something that it seams that you know very little about.
