Featured Replies

Wondering if there is a sub- embassy in Chiang Mai as want to get a certified letter notorised?

Do you mean a Consulate?

What nationality are you?

Australian, sorry, yes, a consulate.

If it is just a notary that you need, there is a lawyer in the Hilside Condo building near Kad Suan Khaow shopping mall... across the street - - fast, easy and reasonable...

As far as I know there is no Australian consulate in Chiang Mai.

Thanks kenk 24 but need an embassy seal

Check the Oz Embassy site for outreach services.

Otherwise it;s a trip to Bangkok.

What about Mike Walther... or has he chucked it in?

You just missed one of the Aussie Embassy outreach sessions in Chiang Mai, on June 17. They come to Chiang Mai once every two months to take care of consular services for Aussies. The next session is scheduled for Friday, 19 August at Le Meridien Hotel.

There are several Aussie JPs around Chiang Mai. Could one of them take care of what you need?

Mike retired several months ago and his chosen successor has for some reason not yet been approved by the Thai authorities.

The Australian Consular outreach sessions in Chiang Mai started in January 2015. They were every 3 months. Now they are every 2 months. As stated above the next is 19th August.

This extract is from their website.

The Consular Section of the Australian Embassy in Bangkok will be undertaking a consular outreach visit to Chiangmai at:
Le Méridien Chiang Mai, 108 Chang Klan Road, Tambol Chang Klan, Amphur Muang Chiang Mai 50100 Thailand between 9.00am to 12.00pm and 1.00pm to 3.00pm on the following days:

Friday 19 August 2016 (Passage Room)
Friday 14 October 2016 (VIP Lounge)
Friday 9 December 2016 (VIP Lounge

I do not think there will be a successor to Mike Walther.

AFAIK Honorary Consuls can no longer notarize documents.

Wouldn't they accept a seal from another embassy? There is the american embassy, for example...

Most embassies will not do the notary service for citizens of other countries unless the document is going to used in the country the embassy represents.

The US embassy is one that has that rule.

"Notarial services provided by the Embassy are primarily for the benefit of American citizens and legal permanent residents. Foreign nationals may also have documents notarized, but only if the documents will be used in the United States."

There will be another Consular visit to Chiang Mai in August, have a look at the website for details otherwise Bangkok bound.
