US Ambassador believes Thailand can achieve Tier 1 on TIP Report

It took the reality of demotion to tier 3 to get anything going on trafficking. (Malaysia which was not demoted made no progress at all on the Thai border death camps and has not prosecuted anyone)

It may need the threat of demotion again to keep the momentum going.

You can't make that threat if you leave the country on tier 3, and there seems to be no reward for progress made.

More loss of face with a second demotion than there is in simply remaining on the lowest level.

Assuming for a minute that this is simply about human trafficking, the promotion may in fact have more effect in stimulating efforts to curb it (or hide it better) than would leaving the country on tier 3, where I would probably agree it still belongs.

I think the one raid on the Bangkok Massage parlor was a "good SHOW" by the Thai's........................... Caught a lot of violaters....... Then all the other raids that came later after the venues were warn and prepared for raids turned up no violaters............. GOOD SHOW THAILAND........

It shows just how gullible some of our NGO's and US Ambassador are........... Could it be that our US Ambassador is on that "Pay list" as well?..... (not that hard to believe)

I will bet that Thailand could even fool our US IRS (Internal Revenue Service - US Income Tax Collecting Department) LOL

Why stop at Tier 1 for Thailand?

USA should create a Tier 0 reserved for countries which it will completely ignore human rights abuses in exchange for special benefits.

Yes totally agree and not to mention their own human trafficking problems in their southern borders..When your own economy is non productive you go after others, this is how the grand U.S.A. conducts its self globally, the Iraq, Libyian and Syrian crisis are all a result of the U.S.A. destablising for their own gains and means, the global refugee crisis is directly their fault..its all about controlling other countries..It appears to be on the outside about human trafficking ,really its about gaining more security control...I say keep your filthy blood stained hands out of Thai business, really who do they think they are??

They think they are still the most powerful country in the world, and they think their opinion and support still really matters. Of course, many of us know the influence of the US is declining by the day, at least partly to inane and poorly conceived overseas wars, falsely motivated democracy campaigns, and terrible foreign policy under Tiny George first, and now under Blundering Barry.

In addition, the one area that bugs me the most is the Quaker style anti-sex campaigns the US funds around the world, and fights with it's ugly, corrupt, greedy, dishonest, and heinous NGO's.

Are most readers on this forum, who are not US citizens, aware that any US citizen is subject to US law, anywhere in the world? That means that a US citizen who is caught with an underage girl (and I mean 16 or 17 years old) for example, can be extradited, and brought to federal trial in the US, and face 10 years in a federal prison, after the government has spent $2,000,000 or more, prosecuting their own citizen? Once released, after 10 years in the slammer, they are branded a sex offender, for the rest of their lives. They are doing exactly that. They are dispatching US attorneys to come to Thailand and bring back Americans to face trial for these charges. I am not in any way advocating having sex with underage girls. I think that is wrong. But, the extent to which they will go to prosecute sex crimes in the US is ridiculous, ill advised, foolish, and a real waste of taxpayer money.

And, I say all this as an American citizen. But, not a particularly proud one.

....and he believes, the IRS, and TSA are working for the good of the people as well. He is getting closer to answering

correctly and politically, what is the color of brown rice as well.

Maybe, Thailand should not get to cocky about this - the US can just as easy slap them back to Tier 3.

Then, they'll be left with egg on their faces - especially as the Thai Poultry Industry looks like being exposed as being just as "fowl" as its Fishing Industry smells fishy.

For starters, see http://www.globalpost.com/article/6779415/2016/06/29/thai-food-giant-drops-chicken-farm-over-labour-abuses

I assume that the US is tier 1 - the amount of human trafficking that goes on in America is unbelievable and dwarfs that of Thailand!!

There again, if one sets the rules, it can hardly place itself in its true position (where Thailand just rose from), can it.

Is 16/17 under age in the US? unless they are 15 in the UK it is not breaking the law.

I applaud the moves made by the American government to prosecute those scum who sexually exploit children overseas.

Is there a particular senator or member of congress I can email my personal thanks for their efforts to bring about this law?

Yes, in the US 17 is underage. An American citizen can be prosecuted for statutory rape, usually without any evidence other than a deposition of the woman (girl). Another example of how the US is a broken nation. Always fighting the wrong battles.

And in you mind no doubt, a 17 year old girl, is exactly the same as a child? Can you not see the difference? Child porn, abuse of children, and trafficking in children is reprehensible. Framing someone for having sex with a 17 year old while illegal in the US, is legal in most other nations on earth, and is a reprehensible waste of taxpayer money, and nothing more than a witch hunt. In the UK, the legal age is 15. In Argentina it is 13. Do you see where I am going with this?

Geo-politics at work.

Rubber necking and rubber stamping. I wonder if Mr. Davies received a swipe from Article 44 club or maybe was spirited away to the indoctrination camp in the middle of the night. Get serious folks it's the people vs politicians plain and simple. Politicians DO NOT REPRESENT your best interests only their own and the political company they keep.

You lot just cant stomach the Junta's successes - god it must hurt!!wai2.gif.

I have been reading about a hi-so woman who has had people put in jail because their daughter didn't want to go to Hong Kong to whore. Some peoples definition of success is different to others I guess.

As far as I am concerned mature adult sleeping with a 17 year old [or younger] is sleeping with a child and should face the full rigours of the law.

Anyone going abroad to have sex with a child below the age of consent in their home country is a predatory scum bag and deserves all the misery that comes their way.

He does not really believe that...rather that is a friendly public relations and media relations statement released to make everyone happy happy...sabai, sabia.

Meantime...behind the scenes.... he is telling everyone else in secret:

"What else am I supposed to say as anything else or any criticisms are not going fix anything at all rather better to play charades with the Thais and appease them and everyone needs to smile for the camera....as it all looks good and all part of the political maneuvering.

Cheers

Rather behind the scenes he is really saying I was installed to keep the elite and the ruling families in power. I am supposed to make sure they are able to maintain and continue to build their fortunes, and that nobody of any significance ever gets arrested or brought to justice.
