Hi guys,

I want to send or bring money back to the UK. I am with the purple bank, SCB.

I am thinking of sending it to my fathers bank account. How much am I allowed to send out of Thailand? Would I be best to change it from baht to sterling here and then send it home, or send baht home and it will be converted there?

What details do I need from my fathers account ? How many times in a month can I send money?

Apologies for my lack of knowledge in these matters, I have been in Thailand some time and I have never sent money home before. I have worked here in Thailand with a work permit and taxes paid.

Would you advise I change some baht here to sterling and take that home with me also when I travel there next month? Any advise is very much appreciated.

MODS : I put this in banking but no help. I feel it will be better here. Please close the post in banking. Thank you. wai.gif

Many thanks in advance for any assistance. wai.gif

Take baht to Super Rich or Vasu and exchange to Pounds. Physically take the Pounds to the UK with you when you travel. They normally have £50 notes in stock so it's not much of a problem for sensible amounts?

Whats your idea of sensible please? How much am I allowed to bring home? I will fly Heathrow then onto Ireland. Do the banks charge to much to send it securely? Carrying it on me is a little bit daunting. Thanks.

You can take out any amount of Pounds, but there are limits over which you have to declare.

For Thailand you have to declare if the value is over 20,000 dollars. For the UK you have to declare if the value is over 10,000 Euros (but only if you go through customs - I don't believe you have to declare if you are in transit). For Ireland you have to declare more than 6,348.69 Euros worth.

Whatever you do, don't put it in overhead bin storage, thieves are going thru bags when you fly and your sleeping

Those particular thieves were targeting people who won large sums in a certain casino in Macao...

Not sure they would take a UK flight because of the cost/distance/price etc but you really can't be too careful

I've traveled with 20,000 euros many times in my back pocket and not had any trouble, order 500 euro notes and its not a lot of bulk

Sadly 500 euro notes are not being issued after the end of 2018. Edited by blackcab
