rooster59
Police raid Alaina Massage Spa hunting owner for alleged human traffickingBANGKOK: Metropolitan police yesterday raided Alaina Massage Spa in the heart of the busy night entertainment venue on Ratchadapisek road and issued warrant for the arrest of the owner for alleged human trafficking. The massage spa will be shut down, police said. The raid followed investigation that the owner and manager of the massage spa, Mr Narin Jaibamrung, 48, has connection with Nataree massage parlour earlier raided and shut down by police for human trafficking. The owner and manager of Nataree are still on the run.The raid at Alaina on Ratchadapisek Soi 7 was led by Pol Maj Gen Charuwat Waisaya, deputy commissioner of Metropolitan Police Bureau.More than 50 police from 191 Patrol and Special Operation Police, Huay Kwang police station, and soldiers joined in the raid.He said the raid came after police’s investigation found that the entertainment venue has financial linkage with the nearby Nataree massage parlour on Ratchadapisek Road.Nataree was earlier searched and closed for prostitution and human trafficking charges.During the search at Alaina, police found some 40 girls but all were above 18 years old.He said Mr Narin is also owner of PPTS Construction Co Ltd which is the legal entity name of Aliana. He would be charged for alleged human trafficking. He said the police could not find Mr Narin as he might be tipped off the raid and fled the premise.Police would propose to the agencies concerned to shut down the venue definitely and authorities would not renew its license, he said. waldroj
"...Police would propose to the agencies concerned to shut down the venue definitely...". If there is enough evidence for the police to do so, then they "definitely" should shut it down! So, if (as reported), the "...authorities would not renew its license...", it would seem they definitely intend to close it "indefinitely". A quick search of the company listing for PPTS Construction Co Ltd (http://www.thaicompanylist.com/en/company.php?company=269274_11&P.P.T.S._CONSTRUCTION_CO.,_LTD.) simply gives its details as "massage". You would think a construction company would be more associated with erecting things.
phoenixdoglover
I don't suppose, if the police are closing businesses for human trafficking, that they could present as justification some evidence of human trafficking at these particular places I realize the Nattaree establishment was basically caught red-handed. But since then, there has been very little in the way of offenses detected. It's not difficult. Undercover cops go in, find some underage or illegal immigrant girls, make a few notes about names and faces, and come back later to make arrests of managers. Do the Thai police actually do this kind of investigative work? It all seems to be high profile raids as sort of a photo op for some decorated commander; and lately it seems to be yielding nothing in the way of arrests. I don't suppose this is all staged. dunroaming
Temporary disruption while Thailand plays the "ending human trafficking" exercise to appease the West and get the sanctions lifted. Don't worry though becase the girls have just been re-located for a while and are still very much around. T.I.T.

spidermike007
Seems as if the US ambassador praising Thailand for it's progress against trafficking, and the raising of the country to tier II status, from tier III, is perfectly timed with these raids. What does anyone want to bet it has to due with pressure from the US, or from it's troublemaker, arrogant, prudish, goody two shoes NGO's? Meanwhile no significant military, police, or government figure has been arrested, and we all know they are involved. Window dressing. Mere playtime, done to appease the Americans. I am quite surprised this push against human trafficking is butting up against TAT's push for more tourism. Soapy massages do seem to be a big drawing card here. Seems to be a conflict of traffic no sorry tourism.
cyberfarang
I wonder who tipped him off...... Now a tip.....Get two hunky no nonsense police guys to walk in and find the guy. Do not tell a zillion police and army folk what is planned............Really easy............ The mafia style gangs that run these glorified brothels in the pretence of being spas and massage parlours are well connected and I`m sure have contingency plans so as not to go out of business when their true business activities come to light. I bet not one of them will serve even 1 minute in jail. They can become invisible within an instant, shielded by their mates in high places and will open up in another name somewhere else within the near future, then the whole process starts again. I also guess that their accountants allow certain sums of monies for fines and their get out of jail privilege cards as part of the expenditures of these illegal businesses. spidermike007
It is possible, that the authorities see the major new player in the tourism industry as the Chinese, and they are making a concerted effort to clean up the country, in regard to the sex industry. I have seen a push away from that, in Samui, Phuket, and in Chiang Mai already. Hundreds of bars have closed, and the ones that remain are not quite the same as they used to be. Very, very few of the Chinese tourists frequent these establishments. Same goes for the Russians. Just pointing it out as a possibility. It kind of makes sense, when you look at what is going on countrywide. Edited July 2, 2016 by spidermike007

sanukjim
Few more of these photo ops and that's human trafficking extinct. Can go back to normal where it still happens but America is eternally appeased. In the 1960s the LOS army officers in the Udorn area maintained their own private entertainment venue with many girls working there in the early teens and some younger. I would venture to think that this practice is wide spread with the protection of the higher ups.

John Kane
Few more of these photo ops and that's human trafficking extinct. Can go back to normal where it still happens but America is eternally appeased. You hit it on the head. "Appeased" is a good word for the issue we call sex trafficking. No one - except Russia who told the USA to take their TIP program and shove it a few years ago - can just ignore the most religiously extreme and politically correct yet wealthiest first world country. In a way America needs to share its many social panic issues internationally to validate its own conception of moral greatness. The International Megan's Law was recently passed and section seven (reciprocity) says other countries will be expected to create sex offender lists and place a stamp in their passport - as America will do - so countries can discriminate accordingly. Goggle Catherine Carpenter on YouTube to hear how sex offender lists have turned out. Like TIP, that too will soon go international. One of the best ways to see where all this could be going is to look into some Sci-Fi books and movies like Elysium and Ice Piercer to see a world in the near future where the top 1% have everything and the rest of us are controlled. Amazing exaggeration about sex trafficking leads to new rules and penalties. They will join fences, walls, visas and passports as ways to control movement. There is academic research making the rounds now in Thailand that 105% of sex workers may be subject to violence from customers every seven weeks. Of course that means we have to save the "girls" since we've already been taught that a huge percentage of the sex workers are under 18. Right? Take away the deliberate exaggeration like that and it soon becomes apparent that traditional laws are all we need.
