Ex-Pats targeted on Sky Train
I've seen and heard of many examples of the Thais double pricing, so a foreigner has to pay anything from 2 or 4 times what a Thai does, up to maybe 20 times as much. Two days ago I visited Wat Arun with the TGF for the first time. All the online guides had said it cost 100 Baht admission fee, which seemed fine to me, a total of 200 Baht for me and the GF. When we got there, though, the sign clearly said 200 Baht admission fee, so I sighed and handed over 400 Baht to the lady behind the counter. The GF jumped in and yak-yakked here and she gave me 200 Baht back. Apparently, entry is free for Thais and 200 Baht for foreigners, an infinite mark-up for farangs compared with Thais. Well I can't really complain as I'd expected to pay 200 Baht at the outset and ended up paying 200 Baht, but it's still kind of annoying after living for 20 years in this country. -

Former Members of the Dissolved MFP Form New Political Group: The People's Party
A new political group called "The People's Party" was launched today by members of the now-disbanded Move Forward Party (MFP). The new party leader is Natthaphong “Teng” Ruengpanyawut, who was the Deputy Secretary-General for the MFP. The MFP was disbanded by the Constitutional Court on August 7 due to claims that the party threatened the monarchy and democracy in its promotion to change Section 112 of the Criminal Code, also known as the lèse-majesté law. After the disbanding, 11 key figures, including former party leader Pita Limjaroenrat and the former Secretary-General Chaithawat Tulathon, were prohibited from forming a new political party, joining any party leadership, or becoming part of a founding team. Nevertheless, the prohibited members, mainly Pita and Chaithawat, remain committed to helping the new political party, which is set to include the remaining 143 MFP members. Today, August 9, the former MFP members held a press conference at the Thai Summit building to officially announce the name of their new party. The term "People's Party" is not new to Thai politics. It was previously used during the 1988 General Election under the leadership of Chaloemphan Siwikrom, who once worked for the Democrat Party. The People's Party secured 19 seats in Parliament before its leader announced its dissolution in 1989 to merge with the Ruam Thai Party. New party leader Natthaphong, 37, was chosen due to his coordinating skills and good nature. The executive management team members of the party include: Sarayut Jailak – Secretary-General Chutima Kotchaphan – Treasurer Nattawut Buaprathum – Member Register Phicharn Chaowapatanawong – Executive Committee Member It was expected that Sirikunya Tansakun, the ex Deputy Leader of the MFP, would become the new party leader, but she clarified she had no intention of doing so. Natthaphong described the new party’s mission, which is to empower all Thai citizens. The logo, an orange inverted pyramid combined with three hexagons, symbolises the ideals of the Khana Ratsadon: The supreme power belongs to the majority of Thai people, and encompasses the values of freedom, equality and fraternity. The target release date for the new party is 2027, and their primary goal is to win the election and create a one-party government. To achieve this, Natthaphong has a lot of work to do, including reorganising the party, finding additional financial backers, and developing appealing campaigns. The People’s Party will start accepting new members at the Stadium One building near National Stadium BTS Station on August 10. Government to Crack Down on Low-Quality Chinese Imports
I get it now - big Thai corporations want to get rid of competition by making a public-private partnership with the government. Government gets rid of inexpensive products - big corporations make more revenues and profits - poor and limited income Thais get screwed. Now it makes perfect sense. Fascistic sense, but sense. -

UK state Pension qualifying Years.....
Sorry, posting issue ! Trying to say that I believe the OP has misunderstood the forecast. Essentially, although it shows 14 "payable" or "qualifying "years, you have already contributed enough to get near enough the full state pension and would only need to pay one year to achieve the maximum. -

Using an overseas Debit Card to minimise paying tax for those of us staying over 180 days
Totally wrong. You'll be taxed with your world income. Wherever it might be. So the idea of credit or debit cards is crap. Thailand will trace it back to origin. To your account in eg UK. -

Visa run at Nong Khai: new things I should know?
Your recent post said you paid 4000 baht for a visa run, so if transport was 1800 does that mean you paid 2200 for your Laos visa? Much cheaper to do it yourself. -

Teen shot dead in Yala amid rising gang violence
Yala witnessed a tragic incident when two teenagers on a motorcycle shot at another group of youths, resulting in one fatality and one severe injury. The police have been struggling to control frequent gang-related violence in the area. Yala City Police Station yesterday, August 8, received a report of a shooting at the entrance of Banogo Tuen Ngor Alley in Moo 1, Sateng Nok subdistrict, Mueang Yala district. Two individuals were injured in the incident. Upon receiving the report, Police Lieutenant Awirut Siripong and a team of officers immediately went to the scene. At the location, police officers from the Kamphong Nibong Municipality cordoned off the area. Bloodstains were found on the ground, and a red Scoopy-i motorcycle belonging to the injured was on the road. The injured individuals were identified as 16 year old Fa-is Dole, from Moo 4, Budi Subdistrict, and 17 year old Asmi Kahlong. Rescue workers from the Mae Kor Niao Yala Foundation had already transported them to Yala Central Hospital. Fa-is Dole succumbed to his injuries later. Investigations revealed that Fa-is (the deceased), owner of the motorcycle, was riding with Asmi and 17 year old Anaph Benma, who was driving. Fa-is was seated in the middle while Asmi was at the back. Two assailants on another motorcycle approached them and fired a handgun, hitting Fa-is fatally and severely injuring Asmi. Anaph, the driver, escaped unscathed but was in shock. Gang dispute Officers have taken Anaph for questioning at the Yala City Police Station. Initial findings suggest that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between local youth gangs. The police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause and apprehend the culprits responsible for the death and injury. Reports indicate that the police in the Mueang Yala district have been unable to control the recurrent violence caused by various youth gangs. These groups often engage in fights and retaliatory attacks, leading to multiple injuries and fatalities. Despite numerous incidents, law enforcement has struggled to arrest the perpetrators or prevent these violent acts. Additionally, the police have not provided clear updates or held press conferences to inform the public and the victims’ families about the progress of the cases, reported KhaoSod. The ongoing gang-related violence in Yala continues to be a significant concern for residents and officials alike. The community is calling for more effective measures to ensure safety and bring justice to those affected by these tragic events.
