New peace-keeping center vows not to influence people’s referendum decisions

BANGKOK, 5 July 2016 (NNT) – The government has given an assurance that its newly set-up peace-keeping center will not try to exert influence on people’s voting choice during the upcoming public referendum.

Interior Minister Gen. Anupong Paochinda said that he will be taking the details of the Prime Minister’s policies confirmed during this week’s Cabinet meeting to all provincial governors and district chiefs across the country, to make sure that everyone works hard to keep the public referendum process running smoothly.

Gen. Anupong stated that the many governors and chiefs will also have to prevent any attempt to influence, distort or interfere in the operations of the Election Commission.

Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Commission Meechai Ruchuphan said that the setting up of the center is within the authority of the government to maintain peace and order while preventing any attempt to distort information about the public referendum.

? Mr. Meechai added that the campaign to explain the details of the draft charter to the public has experienced some obstacles, especially when it comes to the distribution of documents to the people.

No need for them to do anything, open public debate (on the referendum) has already been suppressed!

no one is going to oversee the voting so the government can just make up any result they want. no need to influence anyone either way. 99.9% of people will be happy with that.

So what role does this centre fulfil then?

Military men in these "peace" centers near to polling sites. Role is to intimdate and influence. Even a blind man can see through this charade.

Last week the local gov't workers and the head man had a village meeting telling every one to vote for the draft.

This week it being played over the loud speakers in the villages.

Open public discussion? No'p you can't have that.

Public to discuss their views and opinions? No'p you can't have and if you did you'll be gaoled for 10 years.

How about Information on the draft so every one can have an informed decision? No'p you can't have that also.

And they say there is no influencing of peoples vote

The votes don't matter only the people counting the votes.
