Police rescued six would-be Chinese brides from a guesthouse in the capital’s Prampi Makara district and arrested their alleged trafficker on Tuesday. All seven are Cambodian nationals; two of the victims are underage.

The suspect, Toeun Buthea, 24, planned to bring the women through Vietnam and into China, according to a report filed by the Phnom Penh Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection unit, which made the rescue and arrest.

A group from the unit was in the midst of a crack-down when they found the broker and the women in the Dara guesthouse in Veal Vong commune.
