Thailand and Laos to continue bilateral ties in all areas

BANGKOK, 7 July 2016, (NNT) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha and his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith have reiterated strong ties between the two nations, as they signed a memorandum of understanding on labor cooperation.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Major General Weerachon Sukonthapatipak said the two countries also have several cooperation projects ahead the 21st Thai-Lao Joint Commission meeting and the 3rd Thai-Lao Joint Cabinet Retreat. These projects cover political and security collaborations, as well as development campaigns along the Thai-Lao border areas.

General Prayut and his Lao counterpart signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Labour Cooperation, which aims to promote skills development, employment, and labor protection. The two leaders later discussed the content of the labor agreement, which is expected to be completed within this year.

General Prayut said in order to better facilitate migrant workers, the Thai government is restructuring its labor laws, while urging the Lao government to expand nationality identification centers in the country.

Major General Weerachon said Thailand will give assistance to Laos in terms of energy infrastructure. He stated that Thai investors will be persuaded to consider doing business in Laos.

Both nations have agreed to collaborate on managing water in Mekong River and promoting connectivity in the region.

General Prayut congratulated Laos on assuming the ASEAN chairmanship and expressed confidence that Laos will do a good job in this regard. He invited Prime Minister Thongloun to attend the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, which Thailand will host in Bangkok on October 9th-10th.

Skills development sounds good. Trouble is Laos isn't renowned for its skill supremacy and Thailand doesn't want to learn. Yes sounds like a match made in heaven

Lao ladies are quite skilled. Does this mean they can come back?

Lao ladies are quite skilled. Does this mean they can come back?

Did they go away?

Well, yea, most of them and those that have come back are always looking over their shoulders.
