Current passport will expire February 2017. I am going home next month for a 4 week stay.

I want to apply for a new Irish passport at home but I am concerned that all the people who now want to be Irish (can't blame them :) will cause a huge back log. Will 4 weeks be a sufficient turn around time?

My problem is that I have a marriage extension and I will get a re-entry at Swampy but what if my passport isn't ready on time? I can't fly back with the current passport as it will only have 5 months on it.

I am eligible for a UK passport which I think I can get quick enough but that means going through all the hassle of reapplying for a non- 0 marriage.

Advice please.

To the OP -- Ask at the Irish embassy/consulate in Bangkok about applying for the passport here and now, but having it posted direct to you from the passport office when you are in Ireland (or where-ever). I have found them most obliging and friendly, but I have not asked this specific question. It'd be good to know how you get along with that.

... and to the other posters who are not aware - yes, you can have an Irish passport if you can prove an Irish grandparent or parent - check the website for details. They are happily raking in the euros at the passport office in Dublin at this very moment :)

If you didn't get the new passport you would not have a problem entering the country with 5 months of passport validity. There is no 6 months passport validity needed in your case.
