webfact Posted July 11, 2016 Share Posted July 11, 2016 Bangkok police "proactive" as crime swoop nets 129 in last six days Image; Daily NewsBANGKOK: -- A crackdown on betting and drugs in the capital resulted in the arrest of 129 people over the last six days as the Euro 2016 finals came to an end in France.Division 1 police chief Sompong Chingduang said that the crackdown would assure the public that police were doing their job in rooting out crime rather than waiting for it to happen before doing something about it, reported Daily NewsThe sweep across Bangkok would show that the police are protecting the public, said Sompong.Many of those arrested for gambling, drugs and weapons offences were paraded for the media on Sunday along with a cache of evidence. This was as a result of police operations from July 5 -10.In total 129 arrests were made in the joint operation comprising nine police precincts - Huay Kwang, Makasan, Chana Songkram, Bang Pho, Dusit, Sam Sen, Din Daeng, Nang Lerng and Phayathai.Some 41 gamblers were nabbed with Phayathai and Bang Pho coming out on top in the league table by apprehending 12 and ten miscreants respectively.Ya ba, ganja and crystal meth - ice - possession and dealing resulted in several dozen cases being cleared up across the city. Many more were arrested on weapons charges with six guns and several radios used in crime being displayed yesterday.Other cases cleared up centered around illegal immigrants and arrest warrants that had already been issued.The sweep comes after directives issued from the national police office to get tough. "The public can be assured that we are doing our job, "said chief Sompong, "and that we will continue to be proactive in solving crime and thereby creating trust amongst the public." They only arrest the prostitutes and let the addicts go. They show they are biased when they don't arrest the johns but they arrest gamblers and drug users. Or, perhaps a cynic would suggest that maybe its just that its police force are one of the most inept. Could we have a show of hands on the latter? (Heard from a Thai guy: What do you do when you find a copper in your garbage can? Erm, what about the managers and owners of these dens + buildings +'officials'? Aren't they the ones which should be caught, because of making criminal money? Am I too logic, are you Thai?
