NCPO denies banning individuals from joining Thaksin’s birthday celebration

BANGKOK: -- The National Council for Peace and Order has never issued an order forbidding individuals to travel abroad to join the birthday celebration for fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, NCPO spokesman Colonel Winthai Suwaree stated today (Monday).

He insisted that the NCPO continued to do its jobs within legal framework and had eased overseas travel restrictions except for some individuals who are forbidden by the court to leave the country or who are facing charges at home.

The spokesman, however, said that the NCPO would like to seek cooperation from individuals wishing to join in Thaksin’s birthday celebration by reminding them of the suitability of their planned travels and the potential ill effects toward the country’s stability.

The NCPO believes that Thaksin’s admirers will understand the NCPO’s concern and agree to avoid doing anything which may fire up political conflicts.

It was reliably reported that Thaksin had decided to shift the location of his birthday celebration from Hong Kong to Beijing and his celebration would be limited only to family members and close friends.

Ah, Prayuth is waving the Thaksin flag again to keep the boogie man alive. Who even knew it was his birthday and who cares what individuals have at a birthday party overseas. Prayuth is keeping Thaksin on life support because he needs him.

Posted

These brainless people are making publicity for him again. Thaksin Shinawatra is so lucky to have them as opponents.

Prayuth needs Thaksin and can't let him die.

Why should they be allowed to go there to celebrate and meet with a convicted criminal who has fled justice? Instead they should be getting with the Chinese to collaborate on a joint snatching answer get his butt back here secretly to face justice and imprisonment. About the same way china did to get their political activists that had been hiding in Thailand before.

Thaksin must love Prayut and his cronies.

Thaksin has been out of the spotlight recently, only to be brought centre stage by the NCPO.

Total d..kheads the lot of them.

As other posters have said Prayut needs to keep his bogey man alive and in the spotlight.

So what do you propose: Exit visas in order for the authorities to determine each and every person's reason for leaving the country? In conjunction with illegal snatch squads operating abroad? And what if harm should fall to the said snatch squads abroad - tough luck to them or further snatch squads to rescue them? War with that country?

Think about what you are saying, for chrissakes...

Edit: Do I take it you are fine with Saudi to send snatch squads of their own to ensure Saudi justice in the blue diamond case?

Not a big fan of freedom to move huh? not a fan of freedom to assemble as well? but you like the idea of foreign snatch squads operating in other country's.

But it seems you are a fan of a junta have the right to tell people whom the can and can not speak with and for that matter what they can and can not discuss.

Seems you are a fan of the tactics of China, So just asking how's North Korea or Russia on your list of country's (repressive) just wonderful regimes?

NCPO did not ban but gave a stern warning which sounds more like a threat....for those individuals that are in politics who do go see Thaksin, bet they will be called upon for some "reeducation"

Thaksin and Yingluck don't need this bloke to mention their names to be in the spotlight.

They were both elected in the biggest and second biggest landslides in thailands history.

The only ones in the spotlight now are the illegal junta who snatched power and the barrel of a gun and continue to suppress any freedom of speech which is now firmly being shown in the run up to the referendum .

Now a veiled threat for attending a birthday party.

But at least the name Shinawatra gives the old junta lovers a chance to vent as we don't see them in any of the indefensible threads that roundly condemns the junta actions from all over the world.

Who cares about Thaksin's BD! As long as they are not under indictment, which most of Thaksin's friends are, let them go! Someone told me that CTH is Thaksin's Company. C (Cable) TH (Thaksin). Can anybody verify this?

Having Thaksin out of Thailand is more a benefit to Prayut than having him back in Thailand.

It's easier to vilify someone when they're not standing in your face.

Because there's no law against it?

Sorry, sorry. I forgot you are a staunch junta supporter so laws don't mean anything to you - article 44 is all that matters!

Goodness no - the very last thing the junta could want is Thaksin alive in Thailand!

Imagine if he was snatched as you suggest - the focus for opposition to military rule, all that publicity, and as far as the international community are concerned, a democratic politician ousted in a coup, snatched from exile and imprisoned by a military government!

Talk about "light the blue touchpaper and stand well back...!"

Why is he not a general yet? He should be!

Probably because when he appears on TV he always looks like he is recovering from the bender to end all benders the night before!

You re probably a fan of the Chinese repression. The chinese did this BECAUSE they hate freedom of speech and political opponents...

Remember Thaksin was elected and removed by an "illegal coup"

A coup is a high treason, the current government removed another elected government and granted amnesty to themselves, the exact reason why Yingluk was removed from office....an amnesty

The rice scheme? they do the same with Palm oil and it seems it bother nobody, or at least the people bothered can't tell because they would be considered as troublesome

Your comment would make sens in a democracy with elected people and a non corrupted judicial system...until then...

Who gives 2 sh*ts about Thaksin's birthday. Are they all going to sit around a table singing happy birthday with paper party hats enjoying a nice big sponge cake!? Who bloody cares.

The only people who fly to his birthday are people hanging onto his "expensive" shirt tails, that's it and why it is even mentioned in the news I will never know.

As for the NCPO actually if someone is currently holding a position they absolutely should not be attending the birthday party of a fugitive. This should be made very clear and in this case I would support a ban on current people employed in the political party in not attending. The man is a criminal on the run, a criminal on the run from this country they are currently serving,,,

But you accept that he was convicted in a court of law and fled the country right? Whether you agree with the decision is irrelevant, he was convicted simple as that. So, they should not be meeting this guy for his birthday bash.

I think by now "thesetat2013" realizes he is in a tiny minority but that probably doesn't bother him as he supports a tiny minority that illegally too power.

Yes but he is a convicted criminal on the run. It is not appropriate for individuals to meet him who are currently involved in politics in this country.

He says snatching in collaboration with the Chinese, not an undercover, illegal operation.

Appropriate is not the same as illegal, is it? And who decides what's appropriate or not?

Oh, and the individuals in question are not involved in politics as that's illegal in junta ruled Thailand (something I find highly inappropriate).

So it would be perfectly legal to operate on the sovereign territory of others without the permission of the government of that nation if the Chinese are involved? What?

Why the Chinese, anyway? What have they to do with any of this?

You can't be on the run if you aren't being chased. Sorry to burst your bubble.

It would appear Thaksin is a fan of China. Moving his birthday bash to Beijing. Wasn't it Paris last year? Isn't he welcome in France these days or just shit scared he might get caught up in a terrorist attack - not known for his bravery.

Of course, any sane person believes in freedom of movement and not having governments dictate where people can and can't travel to or who they can meet. With the exception that cavorting with known criminals and terrorists is likely to bring attention from the authorities in most countries these days.

The real issue is despite all the moaning no attempt has ever been made to have Thaksin extradited. And before you trot out the Shin boy fairy tale, that's not because they wouldn't succeed. There are more than enough cases outstanding warrants to justify it, plus the little matter of absconding from bail. But know one wants that conflict and all the fall out. So they try to shun him instead, which usually has the opposite effect.

If you believe Thaksin only ever met PTP ministers and MP's, senior police and business people socially over the last few years you are naive beyond redemption.
