Given extra days on TV extension

Recommended Posts

My TV expired on the 24th June. I extended it for 30 days at Chaeng Wattana, which should have given me until 24th July. However, the red stamp says 27th July. Should I follow the stamped date or follow the correct date of expiration?

Follow the date that should have been stamped into your passport amd not the incorrect date.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the correct date is stamped in your passport.

If you follow the incorrect date you will be fined for overstay upon departure.

I already know that. I was asking if I should follow the incorrect stamped date or the date that should have been stamped on the extension.

The expiration of your tourist visa is irrelevant.

When does the permission to stay you were given by immigration (when you entered the country) expire? OR what was the date when you first entered Thailand on the tourist visa?

If you are sure the stamp is incorrect then don't follow it.

Rankie, this information on the website of the Immigration Bureau may help you:

What does the Visa Expiration Date Mean?

The visa expiration date is shown on the visa. Depending on the alienโ€s nationality, visas can be issued for any number of entries, from as little as one entry to as many as multiple (unlimited) entries, for the same purpose of travel.

  • This generally means the visa is valid, or can be used from the date it is issued until the date it expires, for travel for the same purpose, when the visa is issued for multiple entry.
  • This time period from the visa issuance date to visa expiration date as shown on the visa, is called visa validity. If you travel frequently as a tourist for example, with a multiple entry visa, you do not have to apply for a new visa each time you want to travel to Thailand.
  • The visa validity is the length of time you are permitted to travel to a port-of-entry in Thailand to request permission of the immigration officer to permit you to enter Thailand. The visa does not guarantee entry to Thailand.
  • The Expiration Date for the visa should not be confused with the authorized length of your stay in Thailand, given to you by the immigration officer at port-of-entry. The visa expiration date has nothing to do with the authorized length of your stay in Thailand for any given visit.
  • Each time you arrive at the port-of-entry, an immigration officer decides whether to allow you to enter and how long you can stay. Only the immigration officer has the authority to permit you to enter Thailand.

If after reading the above you are still confused, please post a copy of the arrival stamp that the immigration officer stamped in your passport when you arrived in Thailand and of the extension stamp you got from the local immigration office, and I shall be glad to draw you a picture.

We need to know when your current permission to stay ends before commenting

He said on his original post

The expiry date of their tourist visa ("TV") has absolutely no relevance to the question.

The question relates to their permission to stay and the only way they can get a definitive answer is to confirm the expiry ('admitted until') date of the permit to stay stamped in their passport.

If it is an extension of the original visa then surely the date of expiry of the extension is of question even if apparently incorrect according to standard conditions. It is stamped by Immigration. therefore it is valid as such unless handwritten entries contradict the stamped date.

Not so different to short term extensions granted discretionally even when outside of normal/usual limitations on extension.

The date of expiration as stamped is an official date. The expiration date of the initial visa beomes a reference only.

What is not clear to me is why it is important to the op.Will be requesting a further extension or was intending to depart on or before the 24th?
