Thanks, RandG.

Is it possible to use "Pay bill" option to top up prepaid number? My attempts with "Refill" option in the format 089xxxxxxx failed with pop-up message "This is not dtac number". On the other hand, following the mentioned above link to Pay bill I'm able to go through up to an option to choose foreign bank - card issuer while using exactly the same format.

Strange. I am afraid I have no suggestions. I have used the refill facility many times over the Internet, from Thailand and abroad, and for both mine and my wife's phone, without a problem.

It is frustrating as a prepaid customer I can not buy more than 1 month of data at a time. Even if I tell them I want a balance big enough for another month, it will not automatically renew. I have to go to Dtac. I guess I could give them my credit card number from my home country but am hesitant to do that. I would rather use a positive balance.

I can't really understand what you are saying. My DTAC plan renews automatically every month and it can be managed and changed using the DTAC app.

Usually prepaid should be more expensive than postpaid because in postpaid you should be paying some monthly fees no matter if you use your phone or not but prepaid you will only pay when you use. Due to that monthly payment the call price should be lower and they usually give good deals for buying mobile to.I am not sure how the system work in Thailand.

Dtac offers one year at a time monthly and weekly internet plans where the money is taken from current DTAC account to pay. Works will but remember it is limited at one year in those I have used. This is for prepaid number and may take some searching on there pages to find. Currently have grandaughter on a 99 baht per week plan.

Thanks for the info. I am here 3 months, gone 3 months etc, So the yearly thing wouldn't work.

What i am understanding though is that I can't rely on the employees at the Dtac store to know what is available,

It doesn't make sense to me it can't auto renew if I have a balance big enough or I can't buy more than 1 month at a time.

Anyone willing to venture a guess why they don't allow these 2 things?.

As I said they offer up to one month service in these plans and they do automatically renew if there is enough funds in account - but it sounds as if you do not want it to renew as you will not be here to use it. Expect they may have a tourist plan that you could use if you check there web site - would not depend on staff to know what is available (there are just too many plans).

You could use the weekly or monthly renewing plans and just not have money enough to pay when time to not be here. Or you could use the daily options which does not appear to renew so you just call each day to get it and it is deducted from account balance.

You are conflating at least three issues: expiry, pre-paid balance and plan subscriptions.

Expiry can be addressed by paying for it, some operators have options (DTAC: 180 days/50 baht; 365 days/100 baht), or by making multiple small amount top-ups using a top-up machine (30 days, for each 10 baht top-up, with the 1 baht fee this is 12 baht/30 days, or 144 baht for 365 days). These machines are everywhere including every BTS station, 7/11. etc.

Pre-paid balance: you can add as much money to your account as you wish, up to some maximum, like 3,000 baht. You can add value many different ways, including top-up machines, ATMs, convenience stores, DTAC shops.

Mobile data plan renewals: most mobile data plans automatically renew for some number of periods (say, 12 months for a monthly plan), assuming you have sufficient balance. You may not want a plan to renew if you are not in the country?

For the OP, there are countless third-party top-up services available. I am under the impression this one might be a ThaiVisa "sponsor"? https://mobiletopup.com/ Or just ask someone in Thailand to help you out.

I don't want to make a big deal out of this but I have specifically asked the Dtac shop (several times, several shops) if my prepaid data plan will automatically renew after a month if I have enough balance in it, They always so no, I can only prepay 1 month at a time. I have to come back and renew it. Indeed, my data capabilities are lost after the month's expiration date. I have tried several times to prepay for 2 months and they said I couldn't.

I am not conflating, I am talking about 1 thing.

Thanks for your indulgence.

Found a data plan on the website I could use but was dated 2015. It was monthly but automatically renewed for a year. Will look again when I have time later.

If I find a monthly prepaid plan, and I let it expire by not having enough balance to renew, will I lose my number? I assume if the phone still has a positive balance I will keep my number. True?

The DTAC website can be challenging to navigate, and every provider has thousands of promotions at any one time.

http://www.dtac.co.th/en/search/package/index.html?fta=ao&aos=aopr&aopet=NET&aopep1=&aopen=&aopep2=&aopett=&aopep3=

You can even choose a package, then apply it to your number/account.

You can also mange your plan/account on-line, or via an app.

If I find a monthly prepaid plan, and I let it expire by not having enough balance to renew, will I lose my number? No. Assuming you have a balance and expiry to cover your absence. You seem to have deduced how to manage your account during your pending 3 month absence.

I assume if the phone still has a positive balance I will keep my number. Yes, this is correct, again assuming you haven't exceeded the expiry date.

I have specifically asked the Dtac shop (several times, several shops) if my prepaid data plan will automatically renew after a month if I have enough balance in it, They always so no, I can only prepay 1 month at a time. I have to come back and renew it. Indeed, my data capabilities are lost after the month's expiration date. I have tried several times to prepay for 2 months and they said I couldn't.

I suspect that you, and the CSR, are misunderstanding each other. That said, you can't pre-pay for 2 months per se. You can subscribe to a plan which might automatically renew each month, as long as you have added money to your account. Again, you are confusing pre-paid balance and automatic renewals; they are separate and distinct 'activities'. Each plan has its own terms and conditions, some of which govern automatic renewal, and the number of renewal periods.

Thanks so much for the help. I am doing the 399 plan and it says it renews automatically. I will print this and show it at the shop and pay enough money to cover the three months. And will check the expiry date. And will make sure there is some money in the account for telephony and even some balance to be used for data so I don't lose the number.

That should cover everything.

OP: sorry I hijacked your posting.
