Who was Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel?

Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel was a Tunisian citizen who held residency status in France and worked as a delivery driver in Nice.

At the non-descript apartment block in the city one of his neighbours described him as “not normal.”

“He looked at us weirdly, he wouldn’t even open the door, when we’d arrive behind him he’d slam the door shut,” Hanan said.

“Going grey, in his thirties, around 35-years-old. I would say he was someone who was pleasing to women. We wouldn’t have guessed it at all. He didn’t have a frightening face, but … a look, a look. He would stare at the children a lot,” she said.

His former wife has been taken into custody and was filmed by a news crew being taken out of another apartment block in the city.

Bouhlal was completely unknown to either the French or Tunisian intelligence services.

But he had a conviction for road rage after arguing with another driver and throwing a wooden pallet at him.

Now police want to know if he was a lone wolf or whether others helped him. No group has claimed responsibilty for the attack but he may have been inspired by one.
