Reporting an Alien

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if this has been covered before but I was wondering what happens in the following situation -

We have already informed Immigration that I'm living with my wife but we plan to go away for a short break in Thailand.

As the hotel we are staying at will most likely inform immigration that I'm staying there, do we have to report to immigration again when I return home?

Or is it only when you depart Thailand and return?

No need to do the report if traveling within the country.

Some offices want you to report when you return from a trip abroad while others say another report is only needed if you change addresses.

Thanks Joe. I have done this once and Udon Immigration told us that we should have informed them when I returned home. We told them that I hadn't left Thailand but they said next time will be a 2000 baht fine. I will see what they say in a couple of weeks

I live in Udon Thani and travel a lot in Thailand and go overseas several times per year. So I hardly ever do a 90 day report with them.

I never go to Udon Thani Immigration to report my return to Udon.

I did my Extension based on Retirement last week with no word of complaint by Immigration.

I guess I will continue with the above practice.

P.S. For your info, Jo, Udon seems to have stopped the '30 day under consideration practice' for Extensions based on Retirement. I received my 1 year Extension on the spot, and so have a few other fellow.

Why would you even tell them you are going on a domestic trip? I never have in thirteen years.

If you stay in a hotel and (if) they require a copy of your passport then they will (should) inform their local immigration office....

Assuming the immigration offices apply joined-up thinking, then your usual one will know you've left their area.

Lots of if's and but's but under the new Orwellian guidance, many more of these existing rules & laws are now being followed.

Even if you stay with friends in a different province, they are supposed to report your presence to their local immigration via TM30 (as indeed are you via TM28).

I am perfectly aware of all this. I have never had a problem. I usually use my DL when checking into a hotel. They can report to Immigration or not. Up to them. When I visit my girl up country how do they know I left Phuket? Or when I came back? Are they checking airline reservations? Should I notify IO when I take a two day trip to Krabi or Khao Sok? Let the hotel do it. Should I notify IO how many squares of TP I use when I am on a strange toilet and not my own? Where does it end? If the IO wants to monitor me night and day they can install an officer in the vacant house across the street. Maybe he will tell my neighbor to make his barking dogs shut the F up. Jeez, I feel better now.

What if you travel out and in of the country 3 times or more every month?

I know I don't have to go for my 90 days report as I have to fill my address on the entry form every time, but would my wife have to report me gone and back every time?

I bet she won't like it ;-)

Technically yes she should. However it depends on the office concerned. Also she would like the 2,000 baht fines even less I think.

Just for interest.

When I went to get a residence certificate in Udon we asked if they want a report (claiming I had arrived the day before) they said No thanks, don't want, don't need. YMMV

Aren't you supposed to report to whomever if you are away from home for 48 hours or more now?

No

They still are not enforcing reporting of staying in another province for more than 24 hours that is in the immigration act.

I haven't informed them of any domestic trip. They had the information on their computer system of the last time I stayed in a hotel.

When I did my retirement extension last year my wife was handed a TM30 to complete. Since then I have been on several trips within Thailand and out of the country a couple of times.

Last week I went to renew my extension and we were handed a handful of forms to fill in but no TM30 and no mention of it. Maybe with all the bits of paper now it could be overlooked by the IO.

Whenever we travel in thailand normally my wife uses her ID card to check in (for wife and husband)while I gently relax taking luggage out of car, so normally no one asks for my passport
