Plastic or metal ice buckets

Featured Replies

Which is the best at keeping ice cold? Plastic ice buckets or metal? I introduced a discussion a while ago about leaving or pouring water out of the ice bucket. Leaving WON. How about the type of bucket plastic/metal. Which keeps ice cold the longest? This is just out of interest and don't need people worrying that if I can't afford ice, I shouldnt drink.

Plastic filled to the brim and if you make your own do the old fishos trick and salt the water before you freeze it. Easy

Zojirushi brand vacuum bottles are the best of all. If i fill my bottle with pure icecubes i will still have some ice (with much water of course) after 3 days.

I guess the other japanese brands like Tiger or whatever they sell in the mall are just as good. But only those expensive ones.

Cheap styrofoam ice buckets are the best. Very efficient insulation vs. solid plastic. Metal is high thermal conductor thus worst unless have insulation layer.

Which looks the best?

Metal every time. If someone plonked down a plastic bucket of ice next to my table at a fancy restaurant I'd get up and leave.

Ice is very cheap here. Go metal, the posher the ice bucket the better.

;)
