Dolphins washing ashore, injured or dead

PHUKET:-- A dead dolphin was discovered off a Patong Beach and another is recovering at a Royal Thai Navy facility on Koh Lanta. Both were discovered by scuba divers on Saturday.

Phuket Marine Biological Center veterinarian Patcharaporn Gaewmong told the Phuket Gazette that she believes recent discoveries of sick, injured or dead cetaceans are likely the result of monsoon season currents and winds.

This appears normal for what we see around this time of the year; however we are running tests on the body of the Patong female to determine the exact cause of death, Ms Patcharaporn said. We will also be looking for environmental factors that may have contributed to this animal's decline in health.

There are so many more dangers in their world now from man. They've got to ingest lots of small plastic particles and waste while going through their everyday lives. Nature is collateral damage of human ways.

Absolutely, and in this neck of the woods things are magnified 100 fold.

Exactly. Maybe it just died of old age.

The greatest danger these days is from those who, no matter what the topic, try to push or relate every topic to their own little personal agendas.

Aren't you a fine specimen of misery looking for something to take your personal frustration out on. What happened, did the ex boyfriend do you over? What a sloppy and wet comment.

Have a look at the rubbish the recently formed TRASH HEROES collect on a weekly basis. The Hua Hin group a couple of weeks ago bagged up 270 kg of plastic, bottles, polystyrene, parts of fishing nets etc. A lot is washed down the coast from the Phrayo River, Hua Hin from soi drains and from fishing boats that seem determined to ruin their own industry.

It not uncommon to see turtles with a plastic bag suffocating them. The waters around Thailand and other countries is just a dumping ground amd their are mountains of garbage floating with the currents off shore

The waters of Rio, site of the Olympics in a few weeks time, is like an open sewer.

I was on Nha Trang beach ,Vietnam 20 years and asked my Vietnamese friend "did they have plenty of dolphins and shark species? "his reply was "No we ate then all a long time ago"

...doesn't look 'natural'......

...and please don't try to blame the tourists.....

"however we are running tests on the body of the Patong female to determine the exact cause of death" - wow. That's more investigation than many dead foreigners get.
