Asia-wide crackdown on illegal gambling during Euro 2016

BANGKOK (AP) — Interpol says a crackdown on Asian gambling dens and websites during football's European Championship led to more than 4,100 people arrested and $13.6 million seized.

Police raided nearly 4,000 illegal dens across Asia and Europe, including in China, Singapore, France, and Italy.

Two operations coordinated in Thailand targeted organized crime networks and transnational networks in Asia "behind illicit websites and call-center type operations running online scams," Interpol says.

Three Thai offices of illegal online gambling sites were shut down, and 15 people were arrested in Malaysia linked to payment card fraud.

Interpol's head of anti-corruption and financial crimes unit, Jim Anderson, says "illegal gambling generates massive profits for organized crime networks which are often linked to corruption, human trafficking, and money laundering."

Pointless interference.

So legalized gambling is alright?

Someone should inform them Euro 2016 is over and they were completely ineffective in

curtailing illegal gambling on the Euro 2016 games. tongue.png

Well, I still think that to keep massive gambling profits out of the hands of organized crime is to make it legal. Just like they did during Prohibition and Alcohol. At least then they have some control over it and can collect taxes from it.

I also think a few Casinos in Thailand would attract more Tourists and some High Rollers. Especially if winnings are Tax Free. Many countries in this area have them already so I think it is time for Thailand to cash in on this to.

You are never going to control Gambling in Thailand anymore than you are going to control Prostitution here. Sure you can close down a few bars and gambling dens, and like they did during Prohibition, but new ones will just spring up the next day. So I figure that if you can't beat them you might as well join them and take control on this thing. A few Casinos in selected city here would do very well. Not to mention huge profits from licensing and taxes. .

Euro 2016 is over

Portugal finally won
