New member question about "best" way to get additional 30 day visa

Featured Replies

Hello from Pattaya!

I am 57 years old, and an American citizen.

I entered Thailand by air approximately three weeks ago and would like to visit for an additional 30 days.... past the first 30 day visa that I received at Suvarnabhumi Int'l. Airport.

I've heard that I simply need to fly out of Thailand, overnight in a neighboring country... then fly back into Thailand for an additional 30 days' visa.

Is this true?

Or should I be looking at another solution?

Thank you for any useful information and solutions for this novice. Time is running out for me, so your advice would be much appreciated.

You can apply for a 30 day extension of your 30 day visa exempt entry at a immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

If in Pattaya you will apply at the office in Jomtien.

Assumption: you have no prior visa exempt entries, other than the one you used to enter by air 3 weeks ago.

Options:

  • Get a 30-day extension of your visa exempt entry for 1,900 baht at the Jomtien immigration office
  • Fly to Kuala Lumpur and back (can be the same day) to get another 30-day entry. This is easy as no visa is needed to enter Malaysia.
  • You can get a 30-day visa exempt entry by land also (as a G7 citizen). You could take a casino bus to Poipet and do an out/in there (need to get a Cambodian visa on arrival for, officially US$30; you may end up paying more as a newbie.) You could also use a visa run company (bit more expensive, but possibly easier).

You can apply at the immigration office (Jomtien beach, Soi 5) usually a week before your permission to stay ("ADMITTED UNTIL" stamp) ends.

Might (still) be crowded tomorrow after the three day closure (Mon to Wed).
