BANGKOK:-- It was a saga within a saga - was the alleged con woman known as Lady Kai to be charged with human trafficking or not.

Earlier in the week it seemed debatable that she would face charges in this regard but now one of the country's top policemen said that there is indeed a case to answer.

Though it relates to several hill tribe women rather than others who said they were offered lucrative job offers in Hong Kong and neighboring countries.

Acting chief Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn said that an arrest warrant has been issued by the Rachada Criminal Court. Ying Kai - or just plain Monta Yokratanakan, 56 - will be charged in connection with three hill tribe women who came to work for her at her house in Prachaniwet, Bangkok, between 2008 and 2010.

She will not need to be hunted down - Monta is already under lock and key on remand in Bangkok on charges of lese majeste and making false and malicious claims against many of her former employees.

Sanit also said that a Laotian former employee of Monta has been helping investigators. The employee turned herself in after an arrest warrant had been issued five years ago on yet another allegedly malicious charge of theft.

And in a further development Sanit said that interviews with 16 policemen suspected of wrong doing at the Prachcheun station in relation to the case have now been concluded. A committee set up under the leadership of senior officer Thanapon Sonthet will look into the fallout from the interviews and decide what action to take against the officers involved.

Sanit had previously said that there is a case to answer for the sixteen men several of whom enjoy high ranks.

She must have stepped on some big toes in her past, because they seem to be ready to take her down.

No doubt the lese majesty charge opens the door to everything else.

Arrest warrant out for Ying Kai on human trafficking charges

2107005-wpcf_728x409.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court on Thursday issued a warrant for the arrest of Ying Kai on charges of human trafficking involving three hilltribe female domestic workers.

Pol Lt-Gen Sanit Mahathavorn, the acting commissioner of metropolitan police bureau, said that the human trafficking charges which were lodged against Mrs Monta Yokrattanakarn, alias Ying Kai, by the enquiry police officers stemmed from police findings that she wrongfully exploited the three hilltribe women who worked as her domestic workers from May 2008 to October 2010.

As for the two other Laotian domestic workers who were charged by Ying Kai for stealing from her 12 items of valuables worth about 2.9 million baht while they were working in her house in Prachanivet area, Pol Lt-Gen Sanit assured that the two Laotians would be accorded full justice as he urged them to return from Laos where they had escaped after being charged.

Police now suspect that the two Laotian workers were falsely charged by Ying Kai allegedly with the complicity of some of the Prachachoen district police who are now facing an investigation.

However, the acting metropolitan police chief said the two Laotian women will still face arrest upon their return because their arrest warrant is still valid but they won’t be detained and will be granted bail.

Police will arrange for the Fund in the Justice Ministry to bail them out once they return to give themselves up to the police, he said.

What has / is / will happen in respect of those imprisoned on her word and assisted by police pals.

Are we talking release for those who may still be in prison and appropriate compensation or is just talking the appropriate word ?

I almost took a photo of a lady here in Chiang Mai yesterday that I could have sworn was her, as she was parking a large pick up truck outside one of the famous temples. But I guess she is still on lock down.

The sad thing here is the tragic effect on the lives of these poor ladies who refused to go along with her demands. They should be well compensated for their unjust incarcerations. A truly despicable person and a pleasure to read about her downfall :)

Are we assuming she was the apex predator here and there is no-one feeding off her? I say give her a suspended sentence in exchange for a full list plus documentary evidence of every other person she ever had illegal dealings with. No; LM is to be used to prevent any chance of that happening.

How can that arrest warrant still be valid? Is it to make sure those Laotian women won't come to Thailand to testify? Why are only hillside women involved in the investigation? Is it because they have little power and are easily threatened /coerced? What of the Thai women imprisoned? Paid off already?

ThaiVisa did not pixelate her face, the Source pixelated her face out.

Of course, she's only charged, not convicted.

This whole case is a farse. If the Chicken lady is charged so should be the police officers.

Excellent point.

What's (rightly) going on with this woman is what long-term expats have known for years about Thailand - when they want you, they WANT you, and be sure, then they'll get you.

Red Bull heir, various Abbots, thieves, corrupt officials etc etc - not so much (yet).

she is a red shirt. that means she stepped on the toes of the yellow shirts. as the yellows are currently in power there may be justice here. sorry i dont follow thai politics closely enough to know the names of the political parties here. love the color coded system however. wish they would use it in other countries. great innovation thailand.

She should have shaved her head and donned a saffron robe when she had the chance and became an untouchable, no worries about passing as a bloke.

Yes the committee will turn their backs and count to 50 and expect the table behind them to be full of bulging brown envelopes. Case dismissed.

Being charged does not really mean all that much here. Being convicted, and sentenced to a long stint in prison is quite another thing, and typically only seems to happen to the poorest of the poor, without cash, name, connections, or the ability to hire a good legal team. So few people have been charged within a nation that is infamous for human trafficking, and the use of slave labor on it's fishing fleets. So few. It is an extraordinary indictment against this current government, that so little has been done, despite all of the hyperbole, jawboning, and threats to do so. Yak, yak, yak. All talk and no action makes Johnny a very dull boy indeed.

The BP article today reveals that she was offering to sell royal titles for large sums, which would make an LM charge quite appropriate, whether you agree or not with LM laws. Nice conspiracy theory though.
