THAILAND:-- Thammasat University Hospital has begun leading prayers for waiting patients as a way to improve their moods and mental health. So far, it seems to be working.

About two months ago, there was a viral clip of a man who angrily yelled at hospital staff after being informed that his appointment with the doctor was postponed. Hoping to prevent more patient outbursts like this, Thammasat Hospital has started morning prayers.

Currently, there are two departments taking part in this activity: orthopedics and outpatient services.

Once I had to wait 2 hour for to see a doctor while in the ER. I was the only person there so no cue, but still no medical attention...the doctors where out playing football against the police!

What good is the most expensive Health-Insurance that money can buy or a couple of millions of hard currency in the Bank, when even the ER-Staff is busy playing football.

Not likely to happen in an urban hospital, But in the sticks, I would not be surprised. Considering the fact, that a good number of Farangs live in the sticks (hours away from a decent hospital), have adopted the philosophy " I am married to a good Thai-Wife, so nothing can ever happen to me" ! Good Luck.

Cheers.

No wonder they are nervous and need to pray. The quality of doctors and the treatment received is substandard.

I wonder how many women have been told they have a prostrate issue and men required ovaries removed.

I was treated at Thammasat Hospital for an ortho injury. Yes the waits can be long and had couple of visits cancelled at last minute because Dr had to treat motorcycle accidents or surgery for diabetic patients. I worked in the area so was minor inconvenience. But the Dr had great English skills did his fellowship at Duke.Having extensive experience with orthopedics back home in USA (multiple traumas) treatment at TU was excellent.Physical therapy treatment was comparable. The treatment room facilities leave a lot to be desired but never the treatment over a 2 year period. They have fans not A/C in waiting areas so.it is hot.The specialist I had (foot ankle) gave me his mobile number to call when I needed an appt, arranged with his wife (radiologist) to skip the queue for MRI and followed up after referral to knee specialist. You can't get better care than that.

The main reason I will not go back unless emergency is at last visit they upped the charges for foreign patients and they don't accept ins for out patient visits so the charges were similar to a second tier private hospital like PhyaThai, Paolo where there is less of a wait for Dr, payment and to get meds. Meds are cheaper but adding up the waiting time was not worth the savings.English can be a problem with hospital staff (not medical)

If they have time to pray then surely they are not attending to their duties. I have never seen a nurse who had time to spare in any hospital. I can only assume it is the doctors who are too slow in dealing with the patients and causing the hold up.
