Security officers stop and search travelers on July 15 at a roadside checkpoint in Yala province.

YALA — A 51-year-old Muslim man accused of delivering a bomb to an army outpost in the southern province of Yala and found hanged in his cell room was ruled as suicide Thursday by police.

Somjit Jarae was arrested Saturday in Yala’s Yaha district after it turned out the parcel he was delivering was actually a bomb equipped with a remote detonator. Security officers defused it before it exploded. By Tuesday, Somjit was dead, found hanging from a shower hose, authorities said.

If anyone had good reason to hang themselves it was this guy...his future was looking mighty bleak.

On the other hand, the soldiers might have thought that the sentence he was going to get would be far too lenient?

Per the emergency law imposed in the region, Somjit had been held for questioning at a police station in Yala without charge.

His future was no less bleak than for the 4 million Malay-Thais who live under greater loss of freedom than Thai citizens of the North.

I don't know about you but I consider time incarcerated in a Thai prison to be more bleak than living outside the wall as those 4 million you talk about.

But thats just me.

Suicide or not who cares... good riddance.

''Per the emergency law imposed in the region, Somjit had been held for questioning at a police station in Yala without charge. Media reports quoted Somjit saying he was asked by an anonymous person to deliver the parcel to the base, and he was unaware it was a bomb.''

Now, that story may be BS but it would have been good to have it fully investigated before this man killed himself/was suicided.

Even then if found guilty or complicit it does not mean he should have been helped on his way if that was the case.

His suicide needs to be properly investigated and if it is found he killed himself, fair enough.

If not then anyone who assisted his suicide should be prosecuted.

Maybe he could not wait for his 72 virgins..

Maybe he was innocent...doubtful but he may have been telling the truth when he said

doubtful if the sentence will be light for some one

caught red handed with destructive material.

thank god for the lives saved by early intervention and

arrest of the accomplice.

Ruled after the usual BIB full and extensive investigation including a Post Mortem no doubt ?

Well bugger me, he's hanged himself, case closed - what's for lunch?

Gosh! How unusual! I wonder if his feet were off the ground? Those metal wrapped hoses aren't very strong you know! wink.pngwhistling.gifwai.gif

Are they all terrorists too?

Maybe he could not wait for his 72 virgins..

Would somebody please tell these stupid Muslims that Allah has run out of virgins. Well, HUMAN virgins that is.

Fortunately, Allah has plenty of camel virgins for the martyrs. Well ... not FEMALE camel virgins, as there are none left! But ... he still has plenty of male camel virgins for the martyrs to pleasure.

None of that will bother these folk who've regularly been having sex with their own mothers, fathers, brothers, male cousins, pet dog, goat, sheep, rat or whatever else they can get their grubby little hands on.
