'Crocodile raft' throws down gauntlet with epic dare to online critics
By Teeranai Charuvastra, Staff Reporter

An elephant is used to load-test and demonstrate the nigh unsinkability of a raft Thursday used to float tourists in a pond of hungry crocodiles at Elephant Kingdom southeast of Bangkok in Chonburi province.

PATTAYA — A tycoon whose business involves pushing boatloads of tourists into a pond full of hungry crocodiles issued a hearty challenge Friday to those safety-obsessed naysayers on the internet.

If they come to his attraction and can make the raft sink within five minutes, he will hand over 5 million baht. If it doesn’t, they must publicize the fact online – and accept a free year’s membership to the attraction.

the problem is that there is no room for error, perhaps the gaunlet should be thrown in his direction - is he willing to go to jail for 20 years and forfiet his fortune if one person is injured.......I think not

The owner doesn't understand. The boat does not need to sink.

All that needs to happen is that one person stands up to take a picture; slips and fall into

the water. Within 5 second the grabbed by 10 croc's.

What was that bet again?

Have a good hard look at this photograph...I mean a real good look....

1. Within a split second one of those crocs could rocket out of the water and grab an arm.

2. Look at the left side pontoon...versus the right hand pontoon...the pontoons are not even in length (why? thrown together and welded usual "thai style" )

3. Plastic drums as bouyancy aids....oh come on...!

4. Get a "weighty" bunch of tourists standing at one end/side of the raft and without even being anywhere near a 45 degree angle the raft would slowly start to roll over.

5. Is the boat in the centre of the pontoon "open topped" ie...not totally enclosed with bouyancy aids? it looks to me like it is "open" and there is not a lot of "freeboard" between it and the water.

6. Look at the guy on the left hand side of the photo...peering into his camera...then look at the croc...sidling up in the water to his left...Mr Crocodile knows that the raft "means" food...the guy has his body extended outside the raft (read 1. again)...why aren't the raft staff supervising customer safety.

7. Why isn't the mesh on the raft extended to the roof of the raft...with large circular holes at intervals so as to poke out the feed rods/take photographs and provide at the same time an ability for the tourists to "back off" away from harms way should a croc rocket out of the water....or the tourist feels unsafe.

I could go on......but as this is Thailand and the owner is thai and the staff are thai....dare I say it..."Trust us we are Thai"

This is an accident waiting to happen...and it will.

That "boat" is not the same as the "rafts" shown earlier.

Correct the "real' raft was made of drums and wood tied together with pieces of twine.

The elephant refused to get onto that one.

It is the SAME BOAT------ and has extra support with barrels on each side------- also it would be difficult to "fall over" this barrier. Come on you miserable lot, this is the sort of thing that brings tourists here, and brings them and their friends back next year.Keep your senseless winging for a more worthy scenario--------- there's a lot of other real problems in Thailand.
