KRABI: -- Krabi locals filed a complained about a less-than-sanitary chicken farm in Klong Hin sub-district, which led officials from the Krabi Livestock Office to inspect the premises on Wednesday.

Dr Narong Benjakun led a team of officers to check the fly-infested, feces-covered facility. Farm manager Panthep Kanyuenyong helped with the inspection by showing officials around the farm and machinery control room.

Officials noted that 10 of the automatic conveyor belts were broken, causing feces to get stuck on the belts.

“This resulted in the setup emanating foul smells that locals have been complaining about,” said Dr Narong. “The manager has promised to make repairs within a week.”

How many of you chicken and egg eaters have ever been in a large scale chicken feed lot like that ones run by the big poultry businesses. If you did you probably would give up eating chickens and eggs. Chickens, pigs, and cows in large feed lots are smelly and simply overflowing with crap. They are not pleasant places, but as a friend of mine who made his living in that trade once said, <taking in a large breath of air> "Ahhhh, the smell of money."

Once visited a sewage treatment plant. Asked a worker there how they handled the constant foul smell, his reply: "Smells like money to me!"

Could not deny the logic of that statement.
