Do Many Thais In Pattaya Read The Foreign Discussion Forums ?

Any idea on about what percent of Thai population in Pattaya read or are informed about the

comments about them by foreigners on the foreign discussion forums ?

The relationship between the locals and foreigners in Pattaya is not very good. So could the many negative comments about

Thais on just about every subject have any effect on this local/foreigner relationship ?

I am Thai and i read some of the topics.

I agree in many discussion such as less chair on beach, cutting down the trees on jomtien area and ect.

The discussion about  some idiot behaviors and substations in Pattaya are acceptable and understandable.

Social media and tv also publish many of idiot. We (Thai) also discuss about them.

To read the discussions make me understand more foreigners prospective.

Educational poverty and income inequality remains rife in Thailand. Especially Pattaya, there are a lot of people from upcountry.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Thai people are crazy about Facebook and other social media. They spend all day long posting on them - with far more fervour that any foreigners over here... and mostly with candid photos we didn't even know they were taking. Every man and his dog has a smart phone with internet connectivity. When I go into most shops these days I feel like I'm disturbing the staff members when I ask for or need to be served. It's part of the reason why service is so bad - they get in bad moods because they're being interrupted from their more important job - posting on Facebook or Instagram LOL.

They have an advantage too. Most of us wouldn't have a clue what they saying or posting. They can pretty much get away with saying anything they want about us.

The OP needn't be concerned. They pay back in spades anything we can throw at them. They can handle themselves just fine.

I'm not sure how well English>Thai translate apps work but the reverse are usually beyond any understanding.

Interesting, when I asked the question I was not considering the two groups in Thailands very divided society: The Chinese Thais and the Lao Thais. You just highlighted that the reactions from the group you are in regarding criticism,  is most likely different than a reaction to criticism from the "up country" group. That is , in the context of whats going on in Pattaya.

Edit:  In the context of whats going on in Pattaya :  So its not that simple. While most foreigners and the group you are in (Champa) ^  would agree on alot of the directed criticism , ie ,cutting down trees ...

What about all this reckless over development going on in Pattaya  ? And what about this mass touring business that is running roughshod on Pattaya ?

Are not both of these examples controlled by the Chinese Thais ?

Yeah. Garbled nonsense mainly. You need to be careful using them too as you could inadvertently offend someone if you're using them to communicate.

That's a loaded question...

What you call "reckless over development" would depend on who's looking.

A fair question would be something like: "What do you think about the direction of development in Pattaya?"

Personally I don't have a problem with it. It's just as livable now as it was 10 years ago from my own POV, only better.

In my opinion, both the reckless over development in Pattaya and Mass touring Business are not controlled by Chinese Thai.

8 years ago, we had election for Pattaya Mayor. In that time there were 2 candidates from Chinese thai family. Surat Mekawarakul the owner of Mike group and Cape Dara hotel.  Alisa Panthusak, her father owns Tiffany show and woodland resort. Finally, Khun Tik Itthipol from Bangsan was won the election.

For mass touring business, as you see in Phuket last week, The chinese low cost tour company was arrested for illegal nominees.

In Pattaya,  there are many illegal nominees in tourist business as well. The business own by Russian, Korean and Chinese.

Local thai people also anti tourist bus in town, motorbike food cart, porn show and cutting down local tree in Jomtien area.  Especially unopen u-turn point on sukhumvit road near Makro.

An eye on it for what?  Looks like TV does a pretty good job of policing itself.

I don't think they could be bothered reading this forum... they're all too busy playing Candy Crush in the back room or posting on Facebook or Instagram.

I guess that depends on where one lives. The "bar area" has never been "liveable" and is still just as rubbish as it was 20 years ago. In fact, the same broken pavements were broken back then.

However, I didn't choose to live in the "bar area" because it was a pleasant environment, nudge nudge.

My comment was "just as livable" - no better, no worse...  which you've confirmed by indicating the same cracks in the pavement have been there for 20 years.:D

So how do you define "livable" ? How about on a scale of "quality of life" I invite you to take a songkow ride along the beach and  compare to photos from 2002 -2004
