I have a feeling that it is quite easy to get methadone in Thailand and I have seen Doctors offices offering it in the tourist district.

One fellow that used to own a bookshop in Chiang Mai has been strung out for years, but keeps returning to the UK every year for several months. I would imagine that he goes on methadone here and continues at home.

Methadone treatments are legally available in many hospitals and specialised clinics, also open for foeigners.

Buprenorphine, is available over-the-counter in Thai pharmacies and is sold as 'Temgesic'.

It can be used for opioid addictions.

About 9 years ago I went up to Wat Tham Krabok, between Saraburi and Lopburi. They've treated tens of thousands of addict and alcoholics over the years. They have an English language website you can google to find. They claim a decent success rate. Their method seems to stress a monitered detox, a spiritual component and helping others to recover when leaving the treatment center. Many westerners have been thru the place.

As an ex-heroin and crack and speed and valium etc. addict I'd be more concerned with how a person plans to stay clean and sober after they are detoxed and personally I'd recommend the 12 step approach from personal experience. Detox is easy, I did it many, many times; you just run out of dope and sit there, it comes naturally. Staying clean and sober is a different animal entirely! Good luck!!!

Oh yeah, I wanted to add that there is a government detox and treatment center for drugs and alcohol in Khon Kaen that will take foreigners for about 6000 baht per month. You can e-mail me for more info. For Thais there is a vast network of government drug and alcohol treatment centers throughout the country. You might google Narcotics Anonymous Thailand as well for people with lots of experience in this area.

I have known several western junkies here who were accepted in those as well, here in Bangkok.

But as you mentioned in your previous post, the difficulty is staying clean, especially here as a westerner. Most do not have the chance or opportunity to get a job, and fall back into the old lifestyle.

I am interested i am living not far from KK and i am tired to order the methadone from chiangmai by post EMS. Do they really treat foreigners there in KK ?
